Krishnakumar Balasubramanian is an Indian actor and art director who predominantly works in Tamil cinema.

Career

Film

Krishnakumar made his debut playing the lead role in the film Kadhalagi (2010).

He made his Tamil film comeback in 2020, where he acted in the Amazon Prime anthology film Putham Pudhu Kaalai . Later that year, he played a pivotal role in Soorarai Pottru as a friend of actor Suriya's character.

In 2022, he played a supporting role in Maaran as Dhanush's character's friend. [1]

In 2024, he gained furthur recognition and critical acclaim after potraying Lord Krishna in Nag Ashwin's dystopian science fiction film Kalki 2898 AD.

Theater

Krishnakumar is the artistic director of The Little Theatre Group. [2] [3] [4] He has scripted and directed many stage plays, namely the Christmas pantomimes Alice in iLand (2011) and The Free Musketeers (2012); and the musicals Atita (2010) and Gapsaa - Fully Loaded (2012) for the Little Festival, an international theater festival for young audiences.

He was also the theater director of Kalakshetra Foundation's dance theater production on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birthday celebration "Shanthi Sutra".

Personal life

Krishnakumar was featured as one of the 37 Indians of tomorrow by India Today’ in its 37th-anniversary issue with Ranbir Kapoor and Virat Kohli in December 2012. [5]

Krishnakumar is a member of the Global Shapers community, an initiative of the World Economic Forum (2012). He was a panelist at the World Economic Forum on India 2012 (South Asia's Children—Are We Thinking about South Asia's Tomorrow) with Sarah Brown (wife of ex Prime Minister, UK) and Ulhas Yargop President, IT Sector, Mahindra & Mahindra, India. Maaran is a 2022 Indian Tamil-language political action thriller film written and directed by Karthick Naren, with the screenplay and dialogues were co-written by Suhas-Sharfu and Vivek. Thyagarajan, Sendhil Thyagarajan and Arjun Thyagarajan of Sathya Jyothi Films, the film stars Dhanush, Smruthi Venkat and Malavika Mohanan, with Samuthirakani, Ramki, Mahendran and Krishnakumar Balasubramanian appearing in supporting roles. "Kaattu Payale" is the 2020 Tamil song featured in the soundtrack of the Tamil film Soorarai Pottru, directed by Sudha Kongara. Composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar, written by Snehan and sung by Dhee, the track is a melody number pictured on Suriya and Aparna Balamurali. The track was released as a single on 23 July 2020, on the occasion of Suriya's birthday. As of 25 January 2022, the lyrical version of the track crossed 100 million views.

<i>Sarfira</i> 2024 Indian film

Sarfira is a 2024 Indian Hindi-language drama film directed by Sudha Kongara and produced by 2D Entertainment, Abundantia Entertainment and Cape Of Good Films. It stars Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal and Radhika Madan. A remake of Kongara's Tamil film Soorarai Pottru (2020) starring Suriya and Rawal, which was an adaptation of G. R. Gopinath's memoir Simply Fly: A Deccan Odyssey, Sarfira follows a man who sets out to make affordable airlines for low income people, which several enemies try to impede.
