Kristen Sze was born in Taiwan. After she and her family moved to the United States and settled in the San Francisco Bay Area, she enrolled at Aragon High School and began writing for the school newspaper. After graduating from high school, she enrolled at the University of California, Berkeley, where she reported for the campus radio station while working as an intern at several Bay Area television stations. She graduated from UC Berkeley with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science.
In the early years of her television journalism career, she reported in Binghamton, New York, Fresno, California, Philadelphia and New York City.
In 1998, she joined KGO-TV, an ABC affiliate television station in San Francisco. In 1999, she won an Emmy Award for Best Children/Youth Segment. In 2002, she won an Emmy Award for her work hosting KGO-TV's "Profiles Of Excellence." And in 2011, she was voted for "Best News Anchor" by the San Francisco BayList magazine. She was co-anchors KGO-TV's ABC 7 Morning News (weekday mornings 4:30–7:00 a.m.) with Eric Thomas and now she co-anchors KGO-TV's ABC 7 News (weekday mornings 11–11:30 a.m.) and co-anchors KGO-TV's ABC 7 news (weekday 5 p.m.)
She volunteers at the school attended by her two children. She supports the San Francisco Giants baseball team and the California Golden Bears college sports teams and also enjoys bargain-hunting and running.
She volunteers at a number of community organizations: the Ronald McDonald House of San Francisco, California, the Chinese-American Voter Education Committee in San Francisco, California, the Chinatown Community Children's Center in San Francisco, California, the San Mateo County, California's Childcare Coordinating Council in Redwood City, California, Self Help for the Elderly in San Francisco, California, Chinese Historical Society in San Francisco, California, the Angel Island Immigration Station Foundation in San Francisco, California, Professional Businesswomen's Conference in San Francisco, California Rotary Club of San Mateo's "Reach For The Stars" in San Mateo, California, honoring high school leaders, the San Mateo County's Hall of Fame and the Crisis Center in San Mateo County, California, and fundraising for San Francisco City College's Culinary Arts and Hospitalities program in San Francisco, California.
KGO is a commercial AM radio station licensed to San Francisco, California, and owned by Cumulus Media. Its coverage is greater than any Bay Area FM station, and it registers with Arbitron as a station listened to in surrounding metropolitan regions. Cumulus's local offices are based on Battery Street in the SoMa portion of San Francisco's Financial District.
KGO-TV is a television station licensed to San Francisco, California, United States, serving as the San Francisco Bay Area's ABC network outlet. Owned and operated by the network's ABC Owned Television Stations division, KGO-TV maintains studios at the ABC Broadcast Center immediately west of The Embarcadero north of the city's Financial District, and its transmitter is located atop Sutro Tower. In addition, KGO-TV leases part of its building to CW outlet KRON-TV, but with completely separate operations.
KALX is an FM radio station that broadcasts from the University of California, Berkeley in Berkeley, California, United States. KALX, a community and student-run radio station licensed to the university, broadcasts in stereo with 500 watts of power. The station employs three full-time paid staff members, but is largely run by its nearly 300 volunteers, including Berkeley students and other members of the local community. The station's studios are located at Social Sciences Building on campus.

Owned and operated by The CW's majority owner, Nexstar Media Group, KRON-TV has studios on Front Street in the city's historic Northeast Waterfront, in the same building as ABC owned-and-operated station KGO-TV, channel 7. The transmitting antenna is located atop Sutro Tower in San Francisco.

Kent Ninomiya is the first male Asian American broadcast journalist to be a primary news anchor of a television station in the United States. The Asian American Journalist Association, often referred to as the AAJA, notes that there are numerous Asian American women on the air at American television news stations but very few Asian American men. This disparity is even more pronounced with television news anchors. Kent Ninomiya was the first Asian American man to be a main anchor.
The San Mateo County Times was a daily newspaper published by the Media News Group. The paper is distributed throughout San Mateo County, Monday through Saturday. Before being sold in 1996, it had been published for over 100 years as the San Mateo Times, originally published by Amphlett Publishing.
Carolyn Johnson is a California-based television anchor and reporter. She has co-anchored the noon and 6PM newscasts of KNBC-TV in Los Angeles since July 2014. Until May 23, 2014 Johnson was the co-anchor of KGO-TV San Francisco News at 6 and 11 PM Monday through Friday. She began her broadcasting career as an intern at KCBS-TV in Los Angeles, then worked as a production assistant for KGO-TV while still in college. She worked behind the scenes, producing numerous programs and specials at KGO-TV before accepting a reporting position at KSBY. She returned to KGO-TV in 1998 as a reporter and anchor. On April 11, 2014 it was announced that Johnson was leaving KGO-TV.

In 2015, she became the Saturday news anchor for ABC World News Tonight. Vega vacated the position to become the network's senior White House Correspondent, and also hosted Good Morning America.
