Kumar Waii is an Indian politician from the state of Arunachal Pradesh. [1]

Waii was elected from the Bameng seat in the 2014 Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly election, standing as an Indian National Congress candidate. [1] [2] [3] He served as the Minister of Home and Urban Development of Arunachal Pradesh in the previous government (2014–2019). [4]

Shri Kumar Waii: A Dedicated Public Servant from Arunachal Pradesh Born on April 11, 1971, in the serene village of Waii, Arunachal Pradesh, Shri Kumar Waii hails from the culturally rich East Kameng district. He is the son of Late Sardo Waii and Late Yaja Waii, whose legacy of integrity and community service deeply influenced his life. Shri Waii is a devoted family man. He is married to Smti Koniang Yangda Waii, Smti Davi Miji Waii, and Smti Meena Pyasang Waii. He is a proud father to five sons — Shri Marko Waii, Shri Sardo Waii, Nikam Waii,Niya Waii and Zinam Waii — and four daughters — Miss Ayo Parey Waii, Miss Pulam Waii, Miss Ayo Yaja Waii, and Miss Amli Waii. His educational journey began at Govt. M.E. School, Khenewa, where he completed his primary schooling, followed by high school at Govt. Secondary School, Seppa. Even as a student, leadership came naturally to him. In 1985, he served as General Secretary (School Captain) at Govt. M.E. School, Khenewa, and later as Acting General Secretary at Govt. Higher Secondary School, Seppa. Shri Waii’s political career began early and evolved steadily. In 1991, he took on the role of General Secretary, BCCI, Bameng Block, and by 1996, he was General Secretary, DCCI, East Kameng District. His grassroots connect and organizational skills earned him widespread trust. His electoral journey is a testament to unwavering public support. In 2003, he was elected unopposed as Zilla Parishad Member (ZPM) for Bameng East on a Congress Party ticket. This marked the beginning of a distinguished legislative career. He was elected MLA from the 8-Bameng Assembly Constituency in 2004, 2009, 2014, and again in 2024 — a rare feat reflecting consistent faith reposed in him by the people. Throughout his tenure, Shri Waii held several key portfolios, contributing significantly to Arunachal Pradesh’s development: 2004–2009: Parliamentary Secretary, Tourism 2009–2012: Parliamentary Secretary, Environment & Forests 2012–2013: Parliamentary Secretary, Rural Works Department (RWD), Supply & Transport 2014–2016: Cabinet Minister, RWD, Agriculture, and Panchayati Raj 2016–2019: Cabinet Minister, Home, RWD, Urban Development, and Labour & Employment From promoting tourism and environmental conservation to spearheading rural infrastructure, agricultural growth, urban planning, and public safety, Shri Kumar Waii has left an indelible mark on Arunachal Pradesh’s governance landscape.
