The Liga Națională de Rugby, is Romania's top level professional men's rugby union competition. Liga Națională is run by the Romanian Rugby Federation (FRR) and is currently contested by 14 teams in two regional groups, as of the 2022 season.
SCM Rugby Timișoara is a professional Romanian rugby union club from Timișoara, which plays in the Liga Națională de Rugby, the first division of Romanian rugby. The team first won the championship in 1972, becoming the first club outside Bucharest to achieve this performance. In the modern format of the SuperLiga, SCM Rugby Timișoara won 4 titles in 6 seasons. The team is colloquially known as "Universitatea" Timișoara as it has historical ties with the University of Timișoara. In 2014 the club became a partner of London-based Saracens rugby club. In 2020, the club's partnership with London-based Saracens rugby club ended making them change their identity to SCM Rugby Timișoara. SCM Rugby Timisoara`s annual operating budget for the 2020-21 season is approximately 910,000 Euros.
CSM Știința Baia Mare is a professional Romanian rugby union club from Baia Mare, which plays in the CEC Bank SuperLiga, the first division of Romanian rugby. The 2017–18 SuperLiga is the 104th season of premier club rugby in Romania. The current champions are Timișoara Saracens who managed to defend their title by defeating Știința Baia Mare. Since Politehnica Iași have faced financial issues, they will relegate to Divizia Națională de Seniori which means that both Tomitanii Constanța and Gloria Buzău will replace them next season. Also Timișoara Saracens, the winners of the CEC Bank SuperLiga will participate in the European Rugby Continental Shield.
The 2018–19 SuperLiga is the 105th season of premier club rugby in Romania. Starting with this edition the number of participating teams is increased to eight, with addition of the 2017–18 champions and runners-up of the second tier championship DNS - Divizia Nationala de Seniori. The eventual champions of the SuperLiga which are CSM Știința Baia Mare have the right to participate in the European Rugby Continental Shield and no team will relegate to the Divizia Națională de Seniori, Romiania's 2nd level rugby union competition as CS Năvodari didn't apply to play in the SuperLiga next season.

In late March, it was announced that Tomitanii Constanța would not participate in the Cupa României for the 2021 season due to financial reasons.
The 2019 Cupa României was the 115th season of Romania`s national rugby union cup competition, reserved for club teams participating in the CEC Bank SuperLiga. Starting with this edition the number of participating teams has decreased to seven, due to CSM București dissolving before the start of the new season meaning all of CSM`s matches are to be cancelled.
