Kyle Berkshire (born November 1, 1996) is an American golfer who competes as a professional long drive athlete. He has won the World Long Drive Championship on three occasions, in 2019, 2021 and 2023.

Personal life

Originally from Crofton, Maryland, Berkshire resides in Orlando, Florida. He attended Archbishop Spalding High School in Maryland where he helped the Spalding golf team win two match play and two stroke play MIAA state championships. The team went 31-2-1 in match play during Berkshire's four years including undefeated seasons in 2014 and 2015. [1] He went to the University of North Texas for two years, [2] [3] before transferring to the University of Central Florida. [4]

Long drive career

After reaching the semifinals at the Volvik World Long Drive Championship in 2017, Berkshire in 2018 earned his first World Long Drive victory, winning at the WinStar Midwest Slam in Oklahoma. On September 4, 2019 Berkshire won the 44th World Long Drive Championship in Thackerville, Oklahoma, defeating Tim Burke in the final. [5]

During the pandemic, Comcast shut down the World Long Drive Association in 2020. Players and coach Bobby Peterson formed a new sanctioning body, the Professional Long Drivers Association, where Berkshire won the inaugural PLDA season-ending championship in 2020 at 383 yards. [6] He defended the PLDA Championship (now the PLDA World Championship) in 2021, now having won three consecutive season-ending long drive tour championships.

In December 2021, Berkshire set a new world record for indoor ball speed with 233.4 miles per hour (375.6 km/h). [7]

In October 2023, shortly before the World Long Drive Championship, Berkshire had set a new record for ball speed at 241.6 mph, as well as the longest golf drive ever fully verified at 579.63 yards. [8] On October 22, Berkshire defeated Sean Johnson in the final to claim his fourth season-ending championship match. [9]

The Central Oklahoma Bronchos, are the intercollegiate athletic teams representing University of Central Oklahoma, located in Edmond, Oklahoma. The five men's and nine women's varsity teams are called the "Bronchos". The school's identification as Bronchos dates back to 1922, when the wife of football coach Charles W. Wantland suggested it for the school's mascot. The official colors of the teams are bronze and blue, which the institution adopted in 1895. The Bronchos compete in the NCAA's Division II and in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association in all sports except women's rowing, which competes in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. The Bronchos have won 22 national championships, with the most recent coming in 2023 as the wrestling program won the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships. The Volvik World Long Drive Championship is an annual long drive competition in the sport of golf. It was first held in 1974, and since 2000 has comprised Open, Masters (over-45s) and Women's events.

Brooks Koepka is an American professional golfer who plays in the LIV Golf League. He formerly played on the PGA Tour. In October 2018, Koepka became world number one in the Official World Golf Ranking and remained for 47 weeks after winning the 2018 CJ Cup. He won the U.S. Open in 2017 and 2018, and the PGA Championship in 2018 and 2019, becoming the first golfer in history to hold back-to-back titles in two majors simultaneously. In 2023 Koepka won the PGA Championship for the third time, bringing his total to five majors won within six years. He started his career on the European Challenge Tour and eventually the European Tour. Koepka played college golf at Florida State University.

Southern Pines Golf Course is a golf course in Southern Pines, North Carolina. The course first opened in 1906 and played out by Donald Ross in the 1910. The Southern Pines Elks Club owned the course between 1951 and 2020. Southern Pines was purchased in 2020 and renovated by architect Kyle Franz in 2021 as a 6,900 yard par 70 course.
