The LEAG Group is Germany's second-largest energy producer, primarily operating in the Lusatia (Lausitz) region of eastern Germany. [1]
The conglomerate was founded in 2016, when the Swedish company Vattenfall sold their German lignite division to the Czech investors EPH and PPF. It consists of several legally separate sister companies and their subsidiaries: [2]
Lignite, often referred to as brown coal, is a soft, brown, combustible sedimentary rock formed from naturally compressed peat. It has a carbon content around 25–35% and is considered the lowest rank of coal due to its relatively low heat content. When removed from the ground, it contains a very high amount of moisture, which partially explains its low carbon content. Lignite is mined all around the world and is used almost exclusively as a fuel for steam-electric power generation.

The Lausitzring is a race track located near Klettwitz in the state of Brandenburg in northeast Germany, near the borders of Poland and the Czech Republic. It was originally named Lausitzring as it is located in the region of Lusatia, known as Lausitz in German, but was renamed EuroSpeedway Lausitz for better international communication from 2000 to 2010. The EuroSpeedway has been in use for motor racing since 2000. Among other series, DTM takes place there annually. It also used to host the Superbike World Championship.
Black Pump power station is a modern lignite–fired power station in the Black Pump district in Spremberg, Germany, consisting of 2 × 800 megawatts (MW) units. Built by Siemens, the current plant came into service in 1997–1998. On 30 September 2016, Vattenfall sold the power station to the Czech energy group EPH and its financial partner PPF Investments. The cooling towers are 161 metres high and have an observation deck on top.
