La Guerre Est Meurtre is an album by Von Hemmling. Self described by Jim McIntyre as a "linear nonlinear history of Von Hemmling" and a "stream of consciousness", it features a variety of recordings by McIntyre from 1984 to 2001. Broken up into six different "sections", much of the album is noise effects and edited recordings from bands such as The Apples in Stereo and the Lilys.

The album was mixed and mastered between 2001 and 2002. It is currently available on the official Von Hemmling website in six separate .wav files.

The Apples in Stereo, styled as The Apples in stereo, are an American rock band associated with Elephant Six Collective, a group of bands also including Neutral Milk Hotel, The Olivia Tremor Control, Elf Power, Of Montreal, and Circulatory System. The band is largely a product of lead vocalist/guitarist/producer Robert Schneider, who writes the majority of the band's music and lyrics. Currently, The Apples in Stereo also includes longstanding members John Hill and Eric Allen (bass), as well as more recent members John Dufilho (drums), John Ferguson (keyboards), and Ben Phelan (keyboards/guitar/trumpet).

John Hill is an American guitarist best recognized as a member of The Apples in Stereo and Dressy Bessy.

Jim McIntyre is a musician best known as the man behind the Elephant 6 band Von Hemmling. He was also the original bassist for The Apples in Stereo before leaving in 1993. He has written or co-written many early songs for the band, including "Stop Along the Way", "Touch The Water", "To Love The Vibration Of The Bulb" and "Dots 1-2-3". He also plays bass on several tracks that appear on the debut album Fun Trick Noisemaker, as well as engineering and performing on other Apples in Stereo albums. An incarnation of Robert Schneider's Pet Sounds Studio was located at McIntyre's residence, where influential albums such as In the Aeroplane Over the Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel were recorded.

Von Hemmling is the solo project of Jim McIntyre and one of many experimental music projects associated with The Elephant 6 Recording Company. Though Jim McIntyre is the band's primary performer, Hilarie Sidney and John Hill have both been members of Von Hemmling before becoming members of The Apples in Stereo. Other frequent collaborators include Rich Sandoval, Rob Greene, Dane Terry, Mike Snowden, John Ferguson, Trevor Tremaine and Mike Buckley. The Pet Sounds Recording Studio was a recording studio located in Denver, Colorado, founded by Robert Schneider of The Apples in Stereo and Jim McIntyre of Von Hemmling. Many Elephant 6 albums have been recorded in the studio, including the critically acclaimed Neutral Milk Hotel album, In the Aeroplane Over the Sea. It was demolished in 1999; a high-rise condominium was subsequently erected on the site.
