Lagos State is a state in southwestern Nigeria. Of the 36 states, it is both the most populous and smallest in area. Bounded to the south by the Bight of Benin and to the west by the international border with Benin Republic, Lagos State borders Ogun State to the east and north making it the only Nigerian state to border only one other state. Named for the city of Lagos—the most populous city in Africa—the state was formed from the Western Region and the former Federal Capital Territory on 27 May 1967.
Lagos Island is the principal and central local government area (LGA) in Lagos, it use to be the Capital of Lagos State until 1957. It covers the western part of the eponymous island and is part of the Lagos Division. As of the preliminary 2006 Nigerian census, the LGA had a population of 209,437 in an area of 8.7 km2. The LGA only covers the western half of Lagos Island; the eastern half is simply referred to as Lagos Island East LCDA.
Kadri Obafemi Hamzat is a Nigerian politician who serves as the Deputy Governor of Lagos State. He was born in Lagos, Nigeria into the family of Late Oba Mufutau Olatunji Hamzat and Late Alhaja Kehinde Hamzat from Iga Egbe, Lagos state. His father, Late Oba Mufutau Olatunji Hamzat served as a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly and as a Commissioner for Transportation in the state before becoming the Vice-chairman SW of then Alliance for Democracy(AD). Olatunji Hamzat became the Lagos West Senatorial District leader of the Action Congress and a crowned king through his maternal royal lineage.

Radio Lagos 107.5 FM began operations in 1977 as an offshoot of the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC). It is the first state-owned FM radio station in Lagos State.

The Fourth Mainland Bridge is a 38 km long bridge project by the Lagos State Government, Nigeria, connecting Lagos Island by way of Langbasa(Lekki) and Baiyeku(Ikorodu) across the Lagos Lagoon to Itamaga, in Ikorodu. The bridge is a 2 x 4 lane carriageway cross-sectional road with permission for BRT Lane and future road contraction. It is expected to become the second longest Bridge in Africa, featuring 3 toll plazas, 9 interchanges, 4.5 km Lagoon Bridge and an eco-friendly environment amongst other added features. The idea was conceptualized by the government of Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former governor of Lagos state.Construction was planned to commence in 2017, 50 years after the state’s existence and 26 years after the delivery of the Third Mainland Bridge by the ex-military President Ibrahim Babangida and expected to be completed by 2019, but had not been started as of April 13, 2020. The project was to cost the state an estimated sum of ₦844 billion in the 2017 budget. In September 2020, the Lagos State Government proposed another sum of $2.2 billion for the construction. 800 houses are expected to be demolished as against the 4,000 earlier marked for demolition in the previous design that was realigned.
Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu is a Nigerian politician and the current Governor of Lagos State. He became governor under the platform of the All Progressives Congress after contesting and unexpectedly winning the gubernatorial primaries under the All Progressives Congress against incumbent Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State in October 2019. He is a graduate of the University of Lagos, as well as the London Business School, Lagos Business School and the John F. Kennedy School of Government. Before his gubernatorial ambition, he was the managing director and CEO of Lagos State Property Development Corporation (LSPDC).
The 2019 Lagos gubernatorial election was conducted on March 9 to choose the Governor of Lagos State. The election was held concurrently with various state level elections. Incumbent APC Governor Akinwunmi Ambode lost to the APC flag bearer Babajide Sanwo-Olu at a direct primary election in October 2018 and hence ineligible to run for second term under APC. Babajide Sanwo-Olu won in a landslide against Jimi Agbaje of the PDP who had previously run unsuccessfully for Lagos state governor twice. From 1999, Lagos state has been governed by AD, then ACN, two parties which subsequently formed part of the coalition that birthed the APC in 2013.
The Lekki–Epe Expressway is a 49.5-kilometre (30.8 mi) expressway connecting the Lekki and Epe districts in Lagos State. The Lekki-Epe expressway was first built in the 1980s. It was built during the Lateef Jakande's administration. It is the second private toll project in Africa. The road construction project was financed by the African Development Bank. The bank provided a loan of up to US$85 million to help fund the upgrade and rehabilitation of the Lekki to Epe expressway in 2008, and it was based on Public-Private Partnership (PPP) under the Design, Build, Operate (DBOT), and Transfer and Rehabilitate, Operate (ROT) framework/business model.
His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan Lawal, Abisogun II, is the 15th Oniru of Iruland. He was born to late Chief Taoreed Lawal Akapo, the Ojora of Lagos (1977-1993) and Olori Muinat Olabisi Abeni Ajasa. He is from the Ojora, Aromire, Shokun and Abisogun branch of Oniru royal families of Lagos State. He became the 15th Oniru of Iruland on the 7th of June 2020 after the death of Oba Idowu Oniru in September 2019. He was presented with the staff of Office by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on the 7th of June. 2020. Prior to his enthronement, he was the Commissioner for Agriculture in Lagos State.
On the night of 20 October 2020, at about 6:50 p.m., members of the Nigerian Army opened fire on unarmed End SARS protesters at the Lekki toll gate in Lagos State, Nigeria. Amnesty International stated that at least 12 protesters were killed during the shooting. A day after the incident, on 21 October, the governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-olu, initially denied reports of any loss of lives, but later admitted in an interview with a CNN journalist that "only two persons were killed".
The 2023 Lagos State gubernatorial election will take place on 11 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Lagos State, concurrent with elections to the Lagos State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election will be held two weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent APC Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is eligible to run for re-election and has been renominated by his party.

The Lagos state Task force against Human Trafficking is a Nigerian task force established by the Lagos state Government to tackle human trafficking and irregular migration. The Executive Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu inaugurated the state task force on human trafficking at the Government house on the 8th September 2020, with the overall objective of coordinating a multi-sectoral response towards the prevention of human trafficking, offering access to justice for victims of trafficking, prosecution of traffickers and enhancing the process of successful restoration of survivors to the state of physical, psycho-social, vocational and economic well-being. This task force is currently being replicated in other south western states of Nigeria.
