Lahore Knowledge Park (LKP) is an under-construction science park located on a 852 acres located on Bedian Road in Lahore District, Pakistan. [1] [2] [3]

Science park area designed to promote science or technology business development

A science park is defined as being a property-based development that accommodates and fosters the growth of tenant firms and that are affiliated with a university based on proximity, ownership, and/or governance. This is so that knowledge can be shared, innovation promoted, and research outcomes progressed to viable commercial products.

Owned and managed by the Lahore Knowledge Park Company with an initial investment of $1 billion, of which $200 million is invested by Government of Punjab. The project is designed by Frost & Sullivan. The park include's universities, science and innovation hubs, a retail and central business district, a residential district, an entertainment zone and green areas. [4]

The Government of the Punjab, a provincial government in the federal structure of Pakistan, is based in Lahore, the capital of the Punjab Province.

Frost & Sullivan is a business consulting firm involved in market research and analysis, growth strategy consulting, and corporate training across multiple industries. It is headquartered in Mountain View, California, and has offices in over 40 countries.

Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute and Research Center is under construction in the park. [5]

As of 2016, the COMSATS Institute of Information Technology and Lancaster University will jointly set up a graduate school in the park. [7] [8] [9] Information Technology University will also move its campus to the park. [10]

Arfa Karim Pakistani computer programmer

Arfa Abdul Karim Randhawa was a Pakistani student and computer prodigy who, in 2004 at the age of nine, became the youngest Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP). She also at 10, earned a pilot's license. She had her name in Guinness Book of World Records. She kept the title until 2008. Arfa represented Pakistan on various international forums including the TechEd Developers Conference. She also received the President's Award for Pride of Performance in 2005. A science park in Lahore, the Arfa Software Technology Park, was named after her. She was invited by Bill Gates to visit Microsoft Headquarters in the United States. She died on 14 January 2012, aged 16, following a cardiac arrest.

Lahore Metro Metro railways of Lahore, Pakistan

Lahore Metro is an automated rapid transit system under construction in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. Three metro lines have been proposed, of which the Orange Line is under construction. When operational sometime in 2019, it will become Pakistan's first metro line.

The Bab-e-Pakistan is a national monument in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan which is being built on the site of one of the major Muslim refugee camps which operated in the aftermath of independence of Pakistan. The memorial was proposed in 1985, by the late Governor Ghulam Jilani Khan, and was approved immediately by the President Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq. The monument is designed by a Lahore-based architect Amjad Mukhtar, who is a graduate from National College of Arts, Lahore. The monument has an area of 117 acres and will comprise a memorial block, library, park, museum, auditorium and art gallery.

Pakistan has some of the highest values of insolation in the world, with eight to nine hours of sunshine per day, ideal climatic conditions for solar power generation. However, the country has been slow to adopt the technology.

Economy of Lahore

The economy of Lahore has a diversified base spanning from telecommunication, information technology, manufacturing industry, engineering, pharmaceuticals, steel, chemicals and construction material. As a major urban centre, the economy of Lahore has relatively prospered. Lahore is hailed as the industrial belt of Pakistan and is home to the largest IT park in Pakistan. It is the country's second largest economic hub and the commercial capital of Punjab. In 2008, the city was ranked with high efficiency to be classified as a gamma world city.

Umar Saif Pakistani computer scientist and entrepreneur

Umar Saif is a Pakistani computer scientist and academic. He served as the vice-chancellor of the Information Technology University from January 2013 to November 2018 and as chairman of the Punjab Information Technology Board from November 2011 to November 2018.

Lahore Metrobus

The Lahore Metrobus is a bus rapid transit service operating in Lahore Punjab, Pakistan. Lahore Metrobus service is integrated with Lahore Transport Company's local bus service to operate as one urban transport system, providing seamless transit service across Lahore District with connections to neighboring suburban communities. The Lahore Metrobus was designed to be opened in stages, with the first stage opening on 11 February 2013 stretching from Gajumata to Shahadra. The 27 km stretch was opened during a ceremony by Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif along with Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey Bekir Bozdağ. The second and third stages have been put on hold, as proposals have been put forth to convert the remaining stages to light rail. The Orange Line of the Lahore Metro was initially planned as a BRT.

China–Pakistan Economic Corridor(Chinese: 中国-巴基斯坦经济走廊; Urdu: پاكستان-چین اقتصادی راہداری‎; also known by the acronymCPEC) is a collection of infrastructure projects that are currently under construction throughout Pakistan. Originally valued at $46 billion, the value of CPEC projects is worth $62 billion as of 2017. CPEC is intended to rapidly modernize Pakistani infrastructure and strengthen its economy by the construction of modern transportation networks, numerous energy projects, and special economic zones. On 13 November 2016, CPEC became partly operational when Chinese cargo was transported overland to Gwadar Port for onward maritime shipment to Africa and West Asia, while some major power projects were commissioned by late 2017.

Orange Line (Lahore Metro) Lahore Orange Line Metro Train

Orange Line is an automated rapid transit system in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. When opened in 2019, the line will be Pakistan's first metro. The Orange line is the first of the three proposed rail lines proposed for the Lahore Metro. The line will span 27.1 km (16.8 mi) with 25.4 km (15.8 mi) elevated and 1.72 km (1.1 mi) underground. The line will be served by 26 stations and is expected to handle 250,000 passenger daily. Though it is frequently mentioned as a part of the wider China Pakistan Economic Corridor, the Orange line is being financed by the Government of Punjab.

2016 Lahore suicide bombing suicide bombing which occurred on 27 March 2016

On 27 March 2016, Easter Sunday, at least 75 people were killed and over 340 injured in a suicide bombing that hit the main entrance of Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park, one of the largest parks in Lahore, Pakistan. The attack targeted Christians who were celebrating Catholic Easter. However, as both Christians and Muslims were mingled in the park, Muslims were also killed. The majority of victims were women and children. Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, a group affiliated with the Pakistani Taliban, claimed responsibility for the attack. The attack led to worldwide condemnation and national mourning throughout Pakistan. Pakistan also launched a widespread counter-terrorism operation in South Punjab, arresting more than 200 people.

Information Technology University

The Information Technology University(ITU) is a public university in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. Founded in 2012, the university is founded and headed by Umar Saif and is modeled after the MIT.

Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute and Research Center is an under-construction tertiary referral hospital in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. The project is scheduled to be completed by August 2017 and is planned to have 800 beds with a total cost of 16 billion (US$110 million).

Chief Ministership of Shehbaz Sharif Wikimedia list article

Shehbaz Sharif served longest tenure in history as chief minister of Punjab, Pakistan spanning over 11 years of rule. His tenures involved 1997 Nawaz Government, 2008 Pakistan Peoples Party's regime and 2013 PML-N's rule. His prominent contribution involves infrastructure development, transit projects and power plants. He has developed fly overs, road infrastructures, transit services and power projects. He is best known for his dedication, working speed, ability to execute mega projects and his quick actions. However, he is also criticise over lack of priorities, spending development funds mostly in Lahore and large cities, keeping major power and assignments with in himself, nepotism and conflict of interests and misuse of authority by opposition parties.

Dolphin Force Elite security unit of the Punjab Police

Dolphin Force is an elite security unit of the Punjab Police to deal with street crime. Modeled after the Istanbul Police Dolphin Force it was launched by the Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif in Lahore in first phase and later in the five other major cities of the province in second phase. 696 policemen were trained in the second phase.
