Laila Siddiqui is a Bangladesh Awami League politician and the former Member of Parliament from Tangail-4.

Career

Siddiqui was elected to parliament from Tangail-4 in 1988. [1] [2] She was one of the Bangladesh Awami League leaders who received 100 Bangladesh Nationalist Party men in the league in Tangail on 11 January 2007. [3] She sued the government on 11 January 2014, after her husband Abdul Latif Siddiqui was arrested for criticizing Hajj and Tablighi Jamaat in New York City. She argued that cases against her husband were unconstitutional because, for offences committed outside Bangladesh, Bangladeshi law requires permission of the home minister before individuals can be charged. [4]

In 1969, Tangail district was created by Tangail Mohokuma from its 237 square kilometers of land and 3177 square kilometers of land acquired from Mymensingh district. It is the largest district of Dhaka division by area and second largest by population. The population of Tangail zila is about 4 million and its area is 3,414.28 square kilometres (1,318.26 sq mi). The main city of the district is Tangail. Abdul Kader Siddique is a Bangladeshi politician. He served as a Mukti Bahini member and organizer of the Bangladesh Liberation War. He fought with an estimated 17,000-strong guerrilla force in the Tangail region against the Pakistan Army. The army was called Kaderia Bahini. At the end of the war, in1971, Siddique's forces entered Dhaka along with the Indian forces, signaling the end of the war. He was awarded Bir Uttom by the Government of Bangladesh. Since 1999, he has been serving as the leader of his newly formed party, the Krishak Sramik Janata League.
