Education

Kinteh has a bachelor's degree in law from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Nigeria, and a master's degree in human rights and criminal law from the University of Essex, United Kingdom. [1]

Career

Kinteh is a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of the Gambia. He was the Commissioner of Prosecutions at the Gambian Police Force from 2007 to 2017. In this capacity, he has worked in Darfur, Sudan, for the United Nations (UN). He has also served on secondment as Director of the National Anti-Trafficking in Person (NAATIP) branch of the Ministry of Justice. [2] He was appointed Inspector General of Police on 22 June 2017, replacing Yankuba Sonko. [1]

Solomon Ehigiator Arase is a retired Nigerian police officer. He is currently the Chairman of the Nigeria Police Service Commission. He was appointed Chairman in January 2023 by President Muhammadu Buhari. Arase also served as the 18th Inspector-General of Nigerian Police (IGP) after Suleiman Abba was sacked. Before his appointment as IGP, Arase was head of the topmost intelligence gathering unit of the Nigerian police, the Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Bureau.

Ibrahim Idris Kpotun is a Nigerian police officer and former Inspector General of Police. He was appointed to this position by President Muhammadu Buhari on 21 March 2016, serving till his retirement in January 2019. He replaced Solomon Arase, who retired from the police force on 21 June 2016.

Masaneh Nyuku Kinteh is a retired Gambian Army officer who served as Chief of the Defence Staff until his removal on 5 March 2020 by President Adama Barrow. He was the Gambian Chief of Mission in Havana, Cuba, from 2012 to 2017, and was previously Chief of the Defence Staff from 2009 to 2012. He was retired with the rank of lieutenant general in 2012, having previously also served as Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff in 2009, and shifted to the Foreign Service. He was reinstated as the Chief of Defence Staff in 2017 but redeployed him to the Foreign Service in 2020, becoming the ambassador to China.

Ousman Sonko is a former Gambian politician. He served as Interior Minister between 2006 and 2016 under the Gambian dictator Yahya Jammeh. During this period he is suspected of taking part in acts of torture, including in detention centers.

Yankuba Sonko is a Gambian police officer who was the Inspector General of Police in the Gambia from 2010 to 2014, and from 2015 to 2017.

David Asante-Apeatu is a Ghanaian forensic specialist and police officer. As of February 2017, he was the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of the Ghana Police Service. He is the 28th person to hold the position and the 22nd Ghanaian. On 22 July 2019, he was relieved of his duties as the Inspector General of Police by President Akuffo-Addo.

A number of other protestors and police officers were injured during the confrontation.
