Larry James Matson is an American broadcaster and sports commentator. In 1974, he was the broadcast voice of the Birmingham Americans of the World Football League. [1] He fulfilled the same duties for the successor Birmingham Vulcans in 1975. In 1977, he moved to New Orleans to serve as play-by-play announcer for Tulane University's ISP Sports Network. [2]

From 1981 to 1986, he was the sports anchor for WWL-TV in New Orleans. Matson also became the play-by-play announcer for the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League in 1979. [3] In 1986, he began working for WGNO-TV in New Orleans. In 1993, Matson served as assistant general manager for the New Orleans Zephyrs. He later became the play-by-play man for University of New Orleans men's basketball and McNeese State University football.

He returned to the Saints broadcast booth in 2000. In 2005, he returned to Tulane to do play-by-play for all Tulane Green Wave football and men's basketball games. [2]

Awards and honors

Matson is a six-time recipient of "Louisiana Broadcaster of the Year" honors from the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association. [2] [4] He received the honor in 1980, 1982, and 1985 for his work on WWL and WWL-TV then in 1986, 1988, and 1990 for his work on WGNO-TV. [4]

Bob Carpenter (sportscaster) American sportscaster and announcer

Bob Carpenter is a long-time sportscaster and current television play-by-play announcer for Major League Baseball's Washington Nationals on MASN. Carpenter was born in St. Louis, Missouri and graduated from William Cullen McBride High School. He attended the University of Missouri-St. Louis, and later graduated with honors from the University of Missouri-Kansas City with a bachelor's degree in Radio-TV-Film.

Kevin Paul Calabro is an American sportscaster based in Seattle, Washington. The longtime voice of the former Seattle SuperSonics NBA franchise, Calabro has primarily called NBA basketball but has also announced collegiate football and basketball as well as MLS soccer. From 2016 to 2020, he served as the television play-by-play voice for the Portland Trail Blazers. As of the 2015–16 season, Calabro is the lead play-by-play announcer for NBA on ESPN Radio, including NBA Finals games in 2007, 2014 and 2016 alongside personalities like Jack Ramsay and Hubie Brown. James Harmon Henderson is a former American sportscaster based in New Orleans. He was the radio voice announcer of the New Orleans Saints and also worked as a football analyst for WVUE-DT from 2012 to 2018. Before that, he worked for WWL-TV from May 8, 1978 to January 31, 2012.

Bernard "Buddy" Diliberto Broadcast sports journalist

Bernard Saverio Diliberto, Jr., a.k.a. "Buddy" and/or "Buddy D" was a sports commentator in New Orleans for over 50 years. Buddy earned a Purple Heart for sustaining shrapnel wounds in the Korean War, during which he was a correspondent for Stars and Stripes. He got his start as a sportswriter at The Times-Picayune while attending Loyola University in 1950, eventually becoming the newspaper's daily sports columnist in his last two years of his stint there. His sportscasting career began at WVUE-TV in April 1966, where he remained as its sports director/anchor until he switched to WDSU-TV in March 1981, becoming sports director/anchor at that station for 9 years. WDSU-TV had previously been dominated by sportscaster Wayne Mack in this television market.

Wayne Mack was a broadcast journalist, television entertainer, and sportscaster who served the New Orleans, Louisiana, market from 1958 to 1992.

Lloyd Alfred "Hap" Glaudi was lead sportscaster for New Orleans CBS affiliate WWL-TV. He was part of a trio of colorful sportscasters in New Orleans from the beginning of the 1960s extending up until almost 2000. The others were Wayne Mack of the New Orleans NBC affiliate WDSU-TV, and Buddy Diliberto of then New Orleans ABC affiliate WVUE-TV. All three had distinct personas, fitting of New Orleans's unique culture, with Glaudi being known as the "Dean of New Orleans Sportscasters". Bally Sports New Orleans is an American regional sports network owned by Diamond Sports Group, and operated as an affiliate of Bally Sports. The channel broadcasts local coverage of professional and collegiate sports events within New Orleans and the state of Louisiana.

He also called games for the Tulane Green Wave, Southeastern Louisiana Lions, Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles, New Mexico Lobos and New Orleans Privateers.
