Calle 13 is a Puerto Rican band formed by stepbrothers René Pérez Joglar who calls himself Residente and Eduardo José Cabra Martínez, who calls himself Visitante and their half-sister Ileana Cabra Joglar aka PG-13 or recently ILE.

While writing the album, the duo took a trip to South America to explore areas populated by Latin America's indigenous and African-descended minorities, a journey that greatly influenced the music on Residente o Visitante. René Juan Pérez Joglar, known professionally as Residente, is a Puerto Rican, rapper, writer, filmmaker, and also one of the founders of the Puerto Rican alternative rap group Calle 13. He has won four Grammy Awards and 24 Latin Grammy Awards -- more than any other Latin artist. He studied art for 8 years and has directed some of his own music videos. His lyrics have earned him the respect of many music colleagues and critics and have even been studied as part of school and university courses. He has been recognized for his social contributions and serves as the face of campaigns for UNICEF and Amnesty International. He has consistently defended education in Latin America and the rights of indigenous peoples. In 2009 he referred to the governor of Puerto Rico Luis Fortuño as an "SOB" for laying off more than 30,000 public employees. In November 2015, Residente received a recognition award in Barcelona at the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates forum due to his commitment to social awareness and for promoting peace.
Eduardo José Cabra Martínez, better known by his stage name "Visitante Calle 13" or simply "Visitante", is a Puerto Rican musician, multi-instrumentalist and musical composer of the Puerto Rican band Calle 13, which also includes his siblings Ileana Cabra (ILE) and René ("Residente"). They began their career making alternative reggaeton, but have moved away from the genre, taking an experimental and varied approach to music, with their lyrics being more geared to social and political concerns which combines hip hop and urban with various Latin American musical styles.

Jerry González was an American bandleader, trumpeter and percussionist of Puerto Rican descent. Together with his brother, bassist Andy González, he played an important role in the development of Latin jazz during the late 20th century. During the 1970s, both played alongside Eddie Palmieri and in Manny Oquendo's Conjunto Libre, and from 1980 to 2018 they directed The Fort Apache Band. From 2000 to 2018, Jerry González resided in Madrid, where he fronted Los Piratas del Flamenco and El Comando de la Clave. In October 2018, he died of a heart attack after a fire in his home in Madrid.
