Latitude 42 Brewing Company is an American brewing company located in Portage, Michigan and was the first microbrewery to open in Portage. [1] [2] Latitude 42 Brewing Company opened its doors in 2013 and has produced more than 50 different varieties of beer since opening. [3] [4] In addition to the microbrewery, Latitude 42 has a restaurant and bar located at their Portage facility. [5]

History

In August 2012, master brewer Scott Freitas resigned as the Head Brewer at the Maui Brewing Co in Hawaii to open a brewing company in Portage, Michigan. [6] [7] With more than 20 years of brewing experience, Scott and co-founders Todd Neumann and Joe Stoddard designed and built the 11000 square foot Brewery and Restaurant. The Brewery was called Latitude 42 due to the geographical location of the brewery on the latitude line of 42 degrees and Scott hopes to open more breweries along this specific latitude line. The brewery opened in August 2013 with a menu of 14 beers [8] and now has brewed, distributed and served more than 57 varieties of beer to date. Some varieties of their beer are available in cans. Awards

In 2016, Latitude 42 Brewing Company won a Can Can award, which is an international beer competition focused on canned beers from the US and Canada. Latitude 42 won first place in the American Style Indian Pale Ale category with their I.P.EH! beer. [10]

In 2015, Latitude 42 won the Michigan Brewery of the Year award at the New York International Beer Competition. [11] [12]

Latitude 42 has also won gold and silver medals for different beers at the U.S. Open Beer Championship, [13] Los Angeles International Beer Competition, [14] New York International Beer Competition, [15] North American Brewers Association awards, and multiple others. [16]

Dark Horse Brewing Company is a brewery and tap room in Marshall, Michigan. Its year-round brews include Crooked Tree India Pale Ale, Amber Ale, Raspberry Ale, Reserve Special Black Ale, Boffo Brown Ale, Sapient Trip Ale, and Scotty Karate scotch ale, with several seasonal and experimental brews. The brewery has won several medals at various brewing competitions. Its taproom features 3200+ mugs that fill the ceiling and walls, owned by its mug club members.

Arcadia Brewing Company

The Arcadia Brewing Company was a brewery with facilities in Battle Creek and Kalamazoo, Michigan, United States, in operation from 1996 to 2019. At the time it ceased operations due to financing problems, it was one of Michigan's 25 largest craft breweries and distributed to eight states.

Oskar Blues Brewery

Oskar Blues Brewery is a craft brewery with locations in Longmont, Colorado, Brevard, North Carolina, and Austin, Texas. The company began as a brewpub in Lyons, Colorado in 1997 and began brewing beer in the basement in 1999. In 2002, they became one of the first to put their own craft beer in cans. In 2012, they began marketing some of their craft beer in resealable aluminum containers, and in 2012, they expanded and established another brewery in Brevard, North Carolina.

The Bosch Brewing Company was a small brewery on the Keweenaw Peninsula, in the western part of the Upper Peninsula of the state of Michigan, United States. The company operated under different names from 1874 to 1973.

Canal Street Brewing Co., L.L.C., doing business as Founders Brewing Company, is a brewery in Grand Rapids, Michigan, known for producing several highly rated and award-winning craft-style ales, including KBS, Centennial IPA, Dirty Bastard, and Founders Porter. Since its founding as a craft brewery in the mid 1990s, it has grown to become the 15th largest brewery in the United States, and a prominent member of the West Michigan brewing industry. It is now majority-owned by Mahou San Miguel of Spain.

Bells Brewery

Bell's Brewery, Inc. is a family-owned craft brewing company with operations in Comstock and Kalamazoo, Michigan. Bell's brews acclaimed beers such as Hopslam Ale, Oberon Ale, and Two Hearted Ale. It operates a brewpub and a store selling merchandise and homebrewing supplies at its Kalamazoo location. Begun as a homebrewing store in 1983, and producing beer since 1985, it is the oldest existing craft brewery in Michigan. As of 2019, it is the largest independently owned brewery in the state, and the 7th largest craft brewery in the United States. The company owns Upper Hand Brewery, a separately operated division in Escanaba, Michigan.

Dragonmead

Dragonmead is a U.S. microbrewery, meadery and brewpub founded by Earl Scherbarth, Larry Channell, and Bill Wrobel in January 1997. The small brewery produces many varieties of beer, wine, and mead, and has received awards including gold medals at the World Beer Cup.

Blackrocks Brewery

Blackrocks Brewery is a craft brewery in Marquette, Michigan. Established at the end of 2010, it has become one of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan's largest breweries with sales that extend into Wisconsin and Michigan's Lower Peninsula.

The Keweenaw Brewing Company (KBC) is a craft brewer in Houghton, Michigan. It is named for the detached Keweenaw Peninsula, which projects out to the north of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Established in 2004, it is the largest brewer in the Upper Peninsula, with can and bottle sales that extend into Minnesota, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Michigan's Lower Peninsula.
