Lauren Spalding (born March 17, 1980) represented the United States as a kayaker in the 2004 Summer Olympics. [1] She is also a world champion outrigger canoe paddler [2] and surfski racer.
Spalding represented the United States as a sprint canoer in the early- to mid-2000s. She paddled in the USA National Team Trials in New York in 2003 [3] and qualified for the team, going on compete in the K-2 (Women's Kayak Doubles) 500m and K-4 (Women's Kayak Fours) 500m events at the 2004 Pan American Games [4] and the 2004 Olympics. [5]
Spalding is a 12-time winner of the Molokai OC-1 World Championships, a 32-mile race across the Kaiwi Channel separating the Hawaiian islands of Molokai and Oahu, and holds the seven fastest times ever achieved by a female in the race. [2] [8]
Spalding competes in long distance OC-6 ("six-man" outrigger canoe) races with Team Bradley. As a crew member, she has notched ten victories in the Na Wahine O Ke Kai, [9] a 41-mile race across the Kaiwi Channel that is considered to be the world championship of long-distance outrigger canoe paddling.
Spalding is a 3-time winner of the Molokai World Surfski Championships. [10] [11]

They can range from small dugout canoes to large plank-built vessels. Outrigger boats can also vary in their configuration, from the ancestral double-hull configuration (catamarans), to single-outrigger vessels prevalent in the Pacific Islands and Madagascar, to the double-outrigger vessels (trimarans) prevalent in Island Southeast Asia. The ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships are an international event in canoe racing, one of two Summer Olympic sport events organized by the International Canoe Federation. Julie Leach is an American Olympic Kayak athlete who competed in the 1976 Montreal Olympics, then switched to triathlon. After winning numerous races she won the Oct '82 Hawaiian Ironman World Championship. Julie has two children with Bill Leach: Shane (3-23-88) and Hayden (7-1-93). She taught Earth science at Arnold O. Beckman High School in Irvine, California until 2012.
Canoe marathon is a paddling sport in which athletes paddle a kayak or canoe over a long distance to the finish line. The International Canoe Federation states standard distance races are at least 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) without an upper limit, while short distance races are between 3.4 kilometres (2.1 mi), and 10 kilometres (6.2 mi). Many events are raced down sections of river, including currents or portages around obstacles. Some events attract thousands of competitors and are staged over several days.
Michele Eray is a South African canoe sprinter, marathon canoeist, and surfski paddler who competed in the late 2000s. At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, she finished seventh in the K-4 500 m event while being eliminated in the semifinals of the K-2 500 m event. She finished first of the women in the 2011 Berg River Canoe Marathon, clocking an aggregate time of 19:06.02 in the 4-day event. Michele was the 2013 ICF Canoe Ocean racing (surfski) World Champion, won the silver medal at the 2015 ICF Ocean Racing World Championships. She won the bronze medal at the 2007 ICF Canoe Marathon World Championships. and placed 4th four times. She has also won the notorious Cape Point Challenge Surfski Race 4 times.

She was best known for her solo adventure boating and swimming feats which she documented in her books titled Paddling My Own Canoe, Paddling Hawaii and Paddling North. She has been described as a "pioneer" among women doing solo adventure travel.
