Laurie M. Joyner (born December 10th,1965) is an American sociologist and academic administrator. She is the ninth and current president of St. Norbert College,and she is the first woman to hold this role. Joyner was previously the president of Saint Xavier University in Chicago and Wittenberg University in Ohio. Joyner's academic work focused on inequality and applied social research.
Joyner received her BA in sociology from Loyola University New Orleans in 1986. [1] She worked in administrative positions at her alma mater. [2] She was the recipient of the Dux Sociologicus Award. In 1992,she received an MA from Tulane University in sociology,followed in 1995 by a PhD from the same institution. . [1]
Joyner’s doctoral advisor was James D. Wright,PhD,longtime editor-and-chief of Social Science Research.
Joyner served as a vice president and dean at Rollins College. [2] She later became president of Wittenberg University. [2] Joyner was president of Saint Xavier University from 2017 to 2023. [2] On July 12,2023,she became the ninth president of St. Norbert College. [1] She is its first female president. [1]
Joyner is married and has three sons. [2]

Anna Johnson Julian,born Anna Roselle Johnson was the first African-American woman awarded a PhD in sociology by the University of Pennsylvania (1937),a civic activist,and fourth national president of Delta Sigma Theta,a historically black sorority. In the 1930s,Julian studied factors inhibiting children's education and taught sociology at the University of the District of Columbia then known as Miner Teachers College. Her doctoral work was an analysis of the case records of 100 families receiving income support. She was married to prominent chemist,Percy Lavon Julian,from 1935 to his death in 1975,and had three children. The couple and their children faced down a violent and abusive campaign of intimidation when they moved into an upscale home in Oak Park,Chicago,with attacks on their home,including two fire bombings. The Julians founded the Chicago Chapter of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund.

Joan Huber is an American sociologist and professor emeritus of sociology at Ohio State University. Huber served as the 79th president of the American Sociological Association in 1989. Huber taught at the University of Notre Dame from 1967 to 1971,eventually moving to Illinois,where she taught at the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign. While instructing numerous sociology courses at the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign,Huber served as the director of Women's Studies Program for two years (1978–1980),and then became the head of the Department of Sociology in 1979 until 1983. In 1984,Huber left Illinois for an opportunity at the Ohio State University,where she became the dean of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences,coordinating dean of the Colleges of the Arts and Sciences,and senior vice president for academic affairs and university provost. During her time,Huber was president of Sociologists for Women in Society from 1972 to 1974,the Midwest Sociological Society from 1979 to 1980,and the American Sociological Association from 1988 to 1989. Being highly recognized for her excellence,in 1985 Huber was given the Jessie Bernard Award by the American Sociological Association. Not only was Huber an instructor of sociology at multiple institutions or president of different organization,she also served different editorial review boards,research committees,and counseled and directed many institutions on their sociology departments.
