Lavly Perling (born 26 September 1975) is an Estonian lawyer and politician. [1] Since 2022, she is the head of the party Parempoolsed. [2]
She has graduated from Hugo Treffner Gymnasium. In 1997, she graduated from the University of Tartu. [1]
Since 1996, she has worked at different judicial positions. Since 31 October 2014, she was chief state prosecutor of Estonia. [1]
Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) rights in Estonia have evolved significantly during the 21st century. Both male and female same-sex sexual activity are legal in Estonia. Since 1 January 2016, same-sex couples may register their relationship as a cohabitation agreement, which gives them the same legal protections available to opposite-sex couples. A marriage equality bill was passed on 20 June 2023, which means that same-sex couples will be able to marry and jointly adopt. It will take effect on 1 January 2024. Estonia will also be the first and currently only Baltic country and former Soviet-occupied state to legalize same-sex marriage.
Estonia has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 28 times since making its debut in 1994. Its first appearance would have taken place in 1993 but a qualification round was installed for seven former Eastern Bloc countries hoping to make their debut in the contest, with Estonia failing to qualify.
