The racket sport traditionally named lawn tennis, invented in Edgbaston, Birmingham, England, now commonly known simply as tennis, is the direct descendant of what is now denoted real tennis or royal tennis, which continues to be played today as a separate sport with more complex rules.
The Nottingham Open, originally known as the Nottingham Championships or Nottingham Lawn Tennis Tournament (1887–1967), is a tennis tournament for men and women held in Nottingham, United Kingdom, played on outdoor grass courts at the Nottingham Tennis Centre. After being discontinued in 2008, it was downgraded in 2011 to ATP Challenger Tour and ITF Women's Circuit, briefly re-established as an ATP World Tour 250 event on the men's tour in 2015 and 2016, before returning to a Challenger event in 2017, and since 2015 it has been an international event on the women's tour. The tournament is held in June as a "warm-up" for Wimbledon.
The Manchester Trophy was a professional tennis tournament played on outdoor grass courts. It was previously part of the ATP Challenger Tour and now currently part of the ITF Women's Circuit. It is held annually at the Northern Lawn Tennis Club in the Didsbury suburb of Manchester, England since 1995. The original defunct tournament, the Manchester Open, began in 1880 as the prestigious Northern Championships and continued until the event became a lower level Challenger tournament in 1995. The Challenger event ended in 2009, but was revived in 2015. The men's tournament was discontinued after the 2016 edition while the women's tournament was established in 2017 and ended in 2019.
The Uruguay Open is a tennis tournament held in Montevideo, Uruguay since 2005. The event is part of the ATP Challenger Tour and is played on outdoor clay courts. This is the successor tournament to the earlier Uruguay International Championships (1936–1970), that was last played at the Carrasco Lawn Tennis Club.

The Surrey Championships also known as the Surrey Grass Court Championships and the Surrey County Championships was a men's and women's international tennis event originally founded in 1882 as the Berrylands Club Tournament. In 1890 the former tournament's name was changed to the Surbiton Open that featured the first Surrey County Championships. The tournament was first played in Richmond then later in Surbiton, Surrey, England on outdoor grass courts. It ran for 73 editions from 1890 to 1981 and after a period of 18 years re-emerged as the Surbiton Trophy.
The 2011 Farmers Classic, presented by Mercedes-Benz, was a men's tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts in Los Angeles. It was the 85th edition of the Los Angeles Open, and was part of the Olympus US Open Series of the 2011 ATP World Tour. It took place at the Los Angeles Tennis Center on the campus of UCLA, from July 25 through July 31, 2011, with total player compensation in excess of $1 million. The events were televised by ESPN2 and the Tennis Channel. Following the tournament, a Coldplay concert was held on August 3 and broadcast a portion on ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
The Northern Lawn Tennis Club, or simply The Northern, is a members-owned sporting club in West Didsbury, Manchester. It was home to the prestigious Northern Championships considered one of the most important tournaments in the world for many years. the others being Wimbledon, the U.S. National championships and the Irish Championships It is now the venue for the Manchester Trophy, is played on the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Women's Circuit.
The 2000 Mercedes-Benz Cup was a men's tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts at the Los Angeles Tennis Center in Los Angeles, California in the United States and was part of the International Series of the 2000 ATP Tour. The tournament ran from July 24 through July 30, 2000. Fourth-seeded Michael Chang won the singles title.

However the championships are still being staged today as the East of England and an LTA British Tour.

The Wolverhampton Open was a combined men's and women's grass court tennis tournament founded in 1897 as the Wolverhampton Lawn Tennis Tournament. In 1903 a second tournament was revived and played in Newbridge, in Wolverhampton, where it ran until 1974.
The North of England Hard Court Championships and later known as the Wilson North of England Hard Court Tennis Championships for sponsorship reasons was a combined men's and women's clay court tennis tournament established in 1913 and ran until 1988.
The Sutton Coldfield Hard Courts Championship also known as the Sutton Coldfield Hard Courts was a men's and women's clay court tennis tournament founded in 1926 as the Sutton Coldfield Hard Courts Lawn Tennis Club Tournament. The event was staged annually at Sutton Coldfield Tennis Club, Sutton Coldfield, Warwickshire, England until 1965.

It was established in 1880. The tournament was played annually at until 1932.
The Alverstoke Open was an annual combined tennis tournament founded in 1909 as the Gosport Tournament at Alverstoke, Hampshire, England. The tournament was mainly played on grass courts except for the 1921 to 1923 editions which were played on clay courts. The tournament was part of the ILTF Circuit and ended in 1981.
