Charles Grice "Lefty" Driesell was an American college basketball coach. He was the first coach to win more than 100 games at four different NCAA Division I schools, Driesell led the programs of Davidson College, the University of Maryland, James Madison University, and Georgia State University. He earned a reputation as "the greatest program builder in the history of basketball." At the time of his retirement in 2003, he was the fourth-winningest NCAA Division I men's basketball college coach, with 21 seasons of 20 or more wins, and 21 conference or conference tournament titles. Driesell played college basketball at Duke University.

Horace James "Horse" Hendrickson was an American football, basketball and baseball player, coach, and college athletics administrator. He served as the head football coach at Elon University from 1937 to 1941 and at North Carolina State University from 1952 to 1953, compiling a career college football record of 35–28–1. From 1937 to 1941, Hendrickson coached at Elon University, where he compiled a 31–12–1 record. His best season came in 1941, when his team went 8–1. For much of the 1940s, he was an assistant coach at the University of Pennsylvania. From 1952 to 1953, he coached at North Carolina State University, where he compiled a 4–16 record.
Steven Daniel Hendrickson was an American professional football player who was a linebacker in the National Football League (NFL). Hendrickson attended Napa High School where he was an outstanding varsity player during all four years at the school. His No. 30 jersey remains the only one ever retired by the school. He played college football for the California Golden Bears where he graduated with a major in history. Don Patterson is a former American football coach. He served as the head football coach at Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois from 1999 to 2009, when he resigned due to health problems related to treatment for cancer. Patterson was the 18th football coach at the school. His record at Western Illinois was 63–47. He spent his final two years of coaching as assistant head coach and quarterbacks coach of the Connecticut Huskies. The 1953 NC State Wolfpack football team represented North Carolina State University during the 1953 college football season. The Wolfpack were led by second-year head coach Horace Hendrickson and played their home games at Riddick Stadium in Raleigh, North Carolina. They competed as members of the Atlantic Coast Conference in the league's inaugural year, after NC State and the other ACC schools split off from the Southern Conference. They finished winless in conference with a 0–3 record, and a 1–9 record overall. Hendrickson resigned as head coach following the end of the season.
