Legalsuper is an Australian superannuation fund dedicated to the legal community. It is the only industry superannuation fund for Australia's legal profession. Its MySuper default account is called MySuper Balanced option.

As an industry super fund, legalsuper is managed exclusively for the benefit of its members. The fund pays no commissions to sales agents and there are no dividends paid to shareholders.

The trustee of legalsuper is Legal Super Pty Ltd. A team of staff is located in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia.

History

Legalsuper commenced in 2005 with the merger of the NSW Law Industry Superannuation Trust (LIST) and the Victorian Legal Industry Superannuation Scheme (LISS), both of which had commenced in 1989. In 2007, the NSW Barristers’ Superannuation Fund merged with legalsuper, bringing funds under management to more than $860 million and membership to more than 36,000. With the 2007 merger, legalsuper covered around 35% of the Australian legal sector. [1] In 2009, two further funds merged into legalsuper – the Blake Dawson Partners Superannuation Fund and the Victorian Barristers Superannuation Fund. [2]

The KiwiSaver scheme, a New Zealand savings scheme, came into operation from Monday, 2 July 2007. Participants can normally access their KiwiSaver funds only after the age of 65, but can withdraw them in certain limited circumstances, for example if undergoing significant financial hardship or to use a deposit for a first home.

An industry superannuation fund is an Australian superannuation fund originally established to provide for the retirement of workers from a specific industry. While industry funds are no longer tied to specific industries, they remain not-for-profit, mutual funds which are membership-based and do not have shareholders. Funds that do not operate as default funds, such as self managed superannuation funds (SMSFs) or choice products, are not subject to MySuper standards.

State Super, is one of the oldest superannuation funds in Australia beginning in New South Wales in 1919 with the creation of the State Superannuation Scheme for salaried public servants. It is in the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) Top 15 super funds in Australia with close to $42 billion AUD in assets as at 30 June 2020 and 96,180 members. State Super members are current and previous NSW government employees and public sector workers such as police, teachers, nurses and more.

Hostplus Australian superannuation fund

Hostplus is an industry superannuation fund for the hospitality, tourism, recreation and sport industries in Australia established in 1987.

CareSuper

CARE Super is an Australian industry superannuation fund, focussing on superannuation for people engaged in professional, managerial, administration and service occupations. Established in 1986, CareSuper now services over 245,000 members Australia-wide and has over $15 billion in funds under management.

QSuper was an Australian superannuation fund based in Brisbane, Queensland. The fund was established in 1912 through an Act of Parliament. The State Public Sector Superannuation Scheme was also known as the QSuper Fund. The board of trustees of the State Public Sector Superannuation Scheme was responsible for the management of the QSuper Fund. On 26 Oct 2015 Michael Pennisi, the chief strategy officer replaced Rosemary Vilgan as CEO, who had served in that position for 18 years.

The Australian Retirement Trust (ART) is an Australian superannuation fund headquartered in Brisbane, Australia. With $230bn under management and over 2 million members, it is Australia's second-largest superannuation fund.
