Leopold Griffuel Prize

The Leopold Griffuel Prize (Prix Leopold Griffuel) for translational and clinical research is sponsored by the French ARC Foundation for Cancer Research.

Contents

The prize is designed to reward the accomplishments of and encourage further research among the world's leading cancer researchers. Past American recipients of the Griffuel Prize include Samuel Broder, former director of the National Cancer Institute; C. Everett Koop, former U.S. Surgeon General, and Anita Roberts, pioneer in research on TGF-beta.

Recipients receive a cash award of €15,000 (valued at approximately US$20,000 as of 2014).

Guido Kroemer is a cell biologist who has made contributions to the understanding of the role of mitochondria in cell death. He is a member of multiple scientific academies in Europe and is one of the most highly cited authors in cell biology.

Daniel Louvard is a French scientist with the Department of Cell Biology in the Curie institute, Paris. In 1996 he won the Richard Lounsbery Award jointly with Jacques Pouysségur for "their contributions to the study of the regulation of cell division and differentiation."

Jean-François Bach is a French medical professor, biologist and immunologist. He is Secrétaire perpétuel honoraire of the Académie des sciences.

Gérard Orth was born on February 7, 1936, in Paris is a French virologist, emeritus research director at the CNRS, honorary professor at the Pasteur Institute.

Jean Paul Thiery is a French biologist born on 25 April 1947. He is director of emeritus research at the CNRS-Paris-Diderot University laboratory on complex materials and systems, at the Institut Gustave Roussy's cancer centre and associate professor at several foreign universities.
