Leslie Ellen Johnson is a former council member of Prince George's County,Maryland who represented the county's sixth district. [1] She is the wife of former county executive Jack B. Johnson.
On November 12,2010,FBI agents arrested both her and her husband. [2] She was sworn in on December 6,2010,amidst opposition from five of the nine council members. [3] Leslie Johnson had been scheduled to plead guilty to federal charges on May 3,2011,but the hearing was abruptly canceled. [4] On May 17,2011,Jack Johnson pleaded guilty to extortion and witness- and evidence-tampering. [5]
Leslie Johnson pleaded guilty to federal corruption charges on June 30,2011. [6] [7] Maryland state law requires that Johnson,as a convicted felon,resign once she is sentenced. [7] Johnson had indicated that she planned to remain in office until her sentencing date in October 2011,by which time she stood to collect nearly $28,000 in additional salary. [7] However,on July 5,Johnson announced her resignation,effective July 31. [8] Johnson would continue to draw her salary until the end of the month. [8] The county council called for Johnson to step down immediately,and voted to divest Johnson of her council staff along with her county-issued car and cellular phone. [8] On December 9,2011,Johnson was sentenced to one year and one day in prison. [9] She began serving her sentence in March 2012 at Alderson Federal Prison Camp,and was released after ten months for good behavior. [10] [11]
Jack Bruce Johnson is a former American politician and lawyer. He was a Maryland state's attorney and was,from 2002 to 2010,the county executive of Prince George's County,Maryland. He was elected state's attorney in November 1994 and served as county executive from December 2002 to December 2010. On November 12,2010,both Johnson and his wife were indicted on federal charges as part of a larger political corruption scandal in the county.

On March 4,2011,police in Connecticut arrested 39-year-old trucker and New Haven resident Thomas after claiming to have matched his DNA to that of the rapist from a cigarette butt he discarded. Thomas underwent police questioning. On March 5,2011,jailers reported that Thomas attempted to hang himself while in a jail cell.
