The Harvard Board of Overseers is one of Harvard University's two governing boards. Although its function is more consultative and less hands-on than the President and Fellows of Harvard College, the Board of Overseers is sometimes referred to as the "senior" governing board because its formation predates the Fellows' 1650 incorporation.

Charles Edgar Haldeman, Jr. was the chief executive officer of the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation, known as Freddie Mac, a publicly traded company that is the second largest source of mortgage financing in the United States. On October 26, 2011, it was announced that Haldeman would retire, but he agreed to stay until a successor was found. Haldeman left Freddie Mac in May 2012. He is the former President, CEO, and chairman of the board of directors, of Putnam Investments, a mutual fund company based in Boston, Massachusetts. He served on the Board of Trustees of Dartmouth College from 2004 to 2012.
Kenneth McLennan was a decorated U.S. Marine General. He is most noted for his service as the Assistant Commandant of the United States Marine Corps from 1979 to 1981. In recognition of his distinguished service as Assistant Commandant and Chief of Staff, he was presented the Distinguished Service Medal by the Commandant of the Marine Corps upon his retirement on July 1, 1981.
Donald Roderick McLennan was born in Duluth, Minnesota, son of William Lillingston McLennan and Julia MacLeod. He was the co-founder of the insurance brokerage firm Burroughs, Marsh & McLennan in 1905, which was renamed Marsh & McLennan in 1906 after the retirement of Mr. D. W. Burroughs. McLennan served as the Chairman of the Board from 1935 until his death in 1944 in Lake Forest, Illinois. At the time of his death, the firm had offices in Chicago, San Francisco, New York City, and twenty other cities. In 2016, Marsh & McLennan Companies had over 60,000 employees and annual revenues of $13.23 billion.

It is the world's largest outsourced asset manager with over US$300 billion outsourced assets under management and US$15 trillion under advisement in total. Headquartered in New York City, the firm operates in more than 130 countries, and is the largest provider of outsourced chief investment officers.
