Lester Spell (born December 24,1942) is an American politician who served as the Mississippi Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce from 1996 to 2012. [1] [2]
Gilmer County is a county located in the north central portion of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 census,the population was 31,353. The county seat is Ellijay. It was based on a historic Cherokee town also spelled as Elejoy in the eighteenth century. The county was created on December 3,1832 and was named for George Rockingham Gilmer,a politician who served two non-consecutive terms as governor of the state. Gilmer County is home of the annual Apple Festival,which is held in mid-October. Ninety percent of the land is in cropland and forest. Poultry raising and processing makes up the largest portion of the agricultural economy,which generates 33.2% of the total revenues. Manufacturing is about 20%.

Democrat Nikki Fried narrowly defeated Republican Matt Caldwell. Fried became the only statewide elected Democrat in Florida,as U.S. Senator Bill Nelson,who had held Florida's Class I U.S. Senate seat since 2000,lost reelection. As of 2022,this remains the last time that a Democrat has won a statewide election in Florida,and the only time since 2012.

Incumbent Democratic Commissioner of Agriculture Nikki Fried was eligible to run for a second term,but she instead ran for governor of Florida in 2022. Republican Wilton Simpson won the election with over 59% of the vote.
Several elections took place in the U.S. state of Georgia in 2022. The general election was held on November 8,2022. A runoff election for one of Georgia's seats in the United States Senate was held on December 6,2022. The runoff was scheduled because none of the candidates for Senate received 50% of the statewide vote in the general election. In addition to the Senate seat,all of Georgia's seats in the United States House of Representatives were up for election. Also up for election were all of Georgia's executive officers and legislative seats,as well as one seat on the Georgia Public Service Commission. The Republican Party decisively won every single statewide office in Georgia except for the Federal Senate race which went Democratic in 2022.
