Lev Susany (born 19 November 1988) is a former Australian powerlifter who competed in the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF). He was a member of the Australian Powerlifting Team for 5 years, from 2010 to 2014. He has won numerous Australian, Oceania and Commonwealth Powerlifting Championships over three weight classes (74 kg, 83 kg and 93 kg).

In 2011, Susany was the No. 1 ranked raw junior powerlifter in the world in the men's 74 kg division, and also had the No. 1 ranked bench press in the world. In 2012 and 2013, Susany was the No. 3 ranked raw bench press lifter in the world in the men's 83 kg division. Susany holds numerous National, Oceania and Commonwealth records, and has the highest recorded bench press in his weight division at National, Oceania and Commonwealth level. As of 2015, Susany has broken a total of 33 powerlifting records (7 Commonwealth, 10 Oceania and 16 Australian records) over three weight classes (74 kg, 83 kg and 93 kg). He has been awarded Sportsman of the Year at both The University of Queensland and Queensland University of Technology, as well as a Full Blues Award at The University of Queensland.

Powerlifting is a strength sport that consists of three attempts at maximal weight on three lifts: squat, bench press, and deadlift. As in the sport of Olympic weightlifting, it involves the athlete attempting a maximal weight single-lift effort of a barbell loaded with weight plates. Powerlifting evolved from a sport known as "odd lifts", which followed the same three-attempt format but used a wider variety of events, akin to strongman competition. James Gregory Henderson, also known as Big James Henderson and James "Hollywood" Henderson, is a former American powerlifter who specialized in the bench press. He competed in the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) and was five times Super Heavyweight World Bench Press Champion. He was the second man to bench press over 700 pounds [lb] (317.5 kg) and the second man to bench press over 700 lbs raw. James set numerous world records throughout his career, including the all-time world record in the raw (unassisted) bench press with 711 lb (323 kg).

John Haack is an American powerlifter and chemist. He is the current world record holder in the raw 90 and 100 kilogram weight class. He set the previous 82.5 kg world record of 907.5 kg on August 3, 2019, at the age of 26 at the Tribute powerlifting meet in San Antonio, Texas. For this total, he squatted 312.5 kg, bench pressed 232.5 kg, and deadlifted 362.5 kg. This total beat his own previous records of 890 kg and 875 kg. The previous record holder in this weight class was Maliek Derstine, with a total of 862.5 kg on January 23, 2016.

Brett Gibbs is a powerlifter from New Zealand. He was previously the International Powerlifting Federation world record holder in the classic 83 kg weight class. He became the IPF junior classic world champion in 2014 and the classic world champion in 2015. In 2016, he finished second in the IPF world championships behind John Haack of the US. In 2017, he finished second behind Anuar Ulan of Kazakhstan. Then in 2018, he reclaimed the IPF classic world title with a world record 830.5 kg total. The 299 kg squat and 214 kg bench were also world records. Finally in 2019, he lost out to Russel Orhii.

Jesus Olivares is an American powerlifter. He is the reigning world champion at the IPF Classic Powerlifting Championships in the 120+ kilogram weight class, winning three competitions.

The Australian Powerlifting Union or APU, is the Australian national International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) affiliate for the sport of Powerlifting. Formed in 2018 after Powerlifting Australia was removed from the IPF after Robert Wilks was not re-elected to the IPF Executive Committee, the APU has hosted local-, state-, national- and international-level competitions.
