Liam Teague (born in 1974) is a Trinidadian composer, arranger, and steelpan performer. [1] [2]

Life

Teague was born in Trinidad and Tobago in 1974. [3] He attended Northern Illinois University in the US, where he earned his bachelor's degree in music (1997), as well as his master's degree in music (1999). [4] He currently works as a professor at Northern Illinois University, where he teaches music and serves as the Chair of Steelpan Studies. [5]

Rudolph Charles was a musician and instrument maker of the steelpan, but most notably, he was a pioneer and leader of the steelband movement in Trinidad and Tobago. Also known as Charlo, The Hammer and Trail, among other names, he led Desperadoes Steel Orchestra to 10 various victories from 1965 to 1985, including six Panoramas, two Classical Music Festivals, one Best Bomb and one Best Playing Steel Orchestra.

Selwyn Baptiste was a Trinidad and Tobago-born pioneer of the introduction of the steel drum into Britain, forming the country's second steel band in 1967, and early organizer of London's Notting Hill Carnival. Melodians Steel Orchestra UK is a band formed in Harrow in October 1987 by Terrance "Terry" Noel MBE, composed of orchestra members using the steelpan instrument. They have since achieved considerable success in their musical and community endeavours, being well-recognised by various UK Governmental organisations, the Diplomatic Service and NGOs such as PRS for Music. The band has since assumed a status of national importance to modern British culture and has become symbolic of the importance of the relationship between the UK and the Commonwealth, particularly Trinidad and Tobago.

Winsford Devine, known by the sobriquet Joker, was a Trinidad and Tobago songwriter who composed over 500 calypsos. He worked with The Mighty Sparrow for 17 years, writing many of Sparrow's hits including Slave, Philip, My Dear, and Marajhin. Devine was also the composer of Progress which has been ranked among the best calypsos ever.

PanoGrama is a steelpan competition for soloists, created by Nevin Roach. The program broadcasts on CBC TV8 and other networks. It premiered on April 24, 2020, during the height of COVID-19 restrictions and lockdowns, to provide entertainment.
