Futsal is a football-based game played on a hardcourt like a basketball court, smaller than a football pitch, and mainly indoors. It has similarities to five-a-side football and indoor football.

Indoor soccer or arena soccer is a five-a-side or six-a-side version of minifootball, derived from association football and adapted to be played in walled hardcourt indoor arena. Indoor soccer, as it is most often known in the United States and Canada, was originally developed in these two countries as a way to play soccer during the winter months, when snow would make outdoor play difficult. In those countries, gymnasiums are adapted for indoor soccer play. In other countries the game is played in either indoor or outdoor arenas surrounded by walls, and is referred to by different names.

Sos Hayrapetyan is a retired field hockey defender from Armenia. He won four Soviet Cups, eight Soviet championships (1980–1987), two European Cups and one Intercontinental Cup (1981), and medaled at the 1980 Summer Olympics and 1983 European Championship. Hayrapetyan was named an Honoured Master of Sports of the USSR in 1984. His son Levon is an association football player.

Futsal in Iran is conducted under the auspices of the Futsal Commission of the Islamic Republic of Iran Football Federation. Futsal is a popular and growing sport in the country.

The Brazil national futsal team represents Brazil during international futsal competitions. It is under the direction of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF). The team is considered to be the strongest in the world earning a record three straight championships in the FIFA Futsal World Cup. Brazil also holds a record twelve championship wins in the South American Futsal Championship also known as the Copa América de Futsal and five wins in the Taça América de Futsal. As of November 2016, Brazil is ranked first in the Futsal World Rankings. Brazil has played in all FIFA Futsal World Cups and has finished in the top three places eight times, which includes the recent Futsal World Cup in 2021, having the best overall performance in the World Cup competition both in proportional and absolute terms. As of 2024, the brazilian team has a winning record against every nation they've faced in their history, winning over 89% of the matches and losing 5% of then.
The Thailand national futsal team represents Thailand in international futsal competitions and is controlled by the Football Association of Thailand.
Mariam Stepanyan is an Armenian retired professional footballer who played as a forward in Armenia women's national football team. Before she started to play football she was on the Armenian National woman's Team of Handball. She started to play football for FC Banants. She won the Armenian league champion twice with FC Urartu, and twice with Yerevan FC G.M and got best defenders title of the season.
Football Club Shirak, commonly known as Shirak, is an Armenian professional sports club based in Gyumri. Shirak is known for its professional football team which is one of the oldest football clubs in Armenia, having been created in 1958. The club is the only team that participated in all seasons of the Armenian Premier League since its creation in 1992 until 2021. Shirak is one of the more successful clubs in Armenia, having won a total of 11 domestic titles including four Armenian Premier League titles, two Armenian Cup, and five Armenian Super Cup.

Indonesia has played fourteen times at the AFF Futsal Championship and nine times at the AFC Futsal Asian Cup. The team never participates in any World Cup but has won the AFF Futsal Championship only once in 2010. While under the ultimate control of Indonesia's football governing body, PSSI, the one who regulates the activities of the national futsal team is the Indonesia Futsal Federation—futsal governing body of Indonesia and a member association of PSSI.
