Libra Records was a record label that well known Singaporean acts released their recordings on. One of its most well-known acts was the Western Union Band. The group had two no. 1 records on the label. Other acts to have their recordings released on the label were Kelsom, Glass Onion and The Sandboys.

Background

The Sandboys were the first group to have a single released on the label with "Candle Light" bw "Turn Around". [1] The band contained Hillary Francis was the lead singer and drummer. [2] In late 1971, Billboard listed Garrison, Kelsom, No Sweat, Tenderness and Western Union Band as belonging to the label. [3] The Western Union Band had "Something About You Baby" bw "Driving Me Crazy" released on Libra LRSP 009. [4] By 18 March 1972, the song was at no.4 in the Malaysian Top 10. [5] Before the year was out, the Western Union Band would have 2 no.1 hits. For the week ending 24 June, "Ive Found My Freedom" was at no.8 in Singapore, but it had hit the no.1 spot in Malaysia. [6] And "Sausolito" was at no.1 in the Malaysian Top 10 by 26 August 1972. [7] Family Robinson recorded the song "On the Ride (You Do It Once, You Do It Twice)" written by Lynsey de Paul and Ed Adamberry and it reached no.1 on the Malaysian singles chart on 9 February 1973. The Glass Onion were a Singapore psych band who won the Bee Gees contest in Singapore. Their release on the label was "Purple Lady" backed with "It's Over". [11]

"Take Me Bak 'Ome" is a song by the British rock band Slade, released in 1972 as a non-album single. It was written by lead vocalist Noddy Holder and bassist Jim Lea, and produced by Chas Chandler. It reached No. 1 in the UK, giving the band their second number one single, and remained in the charts for thirteen weeks. The song was certified UK Silver by BPI in 1972. In the United States, the song reached No. 97. The song would be included on the band's 1973 compilation album Sladest.

The Revels were an American rock band from California, associated with the 1960s surf music craze. They had hits with "Six Pak", and "Church Key" which was their most famous single.

Impact Records was a California based record label run by CT Records creator, Tony Hilder in the 1960s. This label released some surf records by The Crestwoods, Dave Myers and The Surftones, The Ramblers and The New Breed and The Revels. The Revels were known for the hits "Comanche" and "Intoxica".

Epitaph is a German rock band, formed in Dortmund in 1969. In 2000 Epitaph reunited and several new releases followed, including two studio albums.

Nash Chase is a former pop singer from New Zealand who recorded for the Ode and HMV labels. He released a string of singles in the early 1970s. He is remembered for "What Greater Love", "Today I Killed a Man I Didn't Know" and "Anderson and Wise".

"On the Ride " is a song recorded and released as a single in 1972 by the Dutch musical ensemble, Continental Uptight Band. It was written by Lynsey de Paul and Edward Adamberry. The single was a chart hit in the Netherlands, reaching No. 23 in March 1972. It also reached No. 21 on the Radio Northsea International Prediction Hit 40 listing on 4 March 1972 after being a Smash Play on the radio station a month earlier. The single was also released in most territories of the world including the UK, US, Germany, Spain, Turkey, Brazil and Argentina, with "Northern Islands" being the B-side on all of these releases. It was released on CD in 2002 on Top 40 hitdossier : collectables 70's and, in 2005, on compilation albums in the Nederpop series.

Rue Barclay was an American Country & Western musician who recorded in the 1940s and in to the 1970s. He was also record producer who produced records for Clarence Jackson, Mutt Poston & The Farm Hands and Red White & The Country Gospel Singers etc.

Paul Kyser is an American promoter, record label owner, singer, songwriter, record producer and arranger. Along with Leon Stuckey he co-wrote "Just How Sweet Is Your Love" for Rhyze, which appears on the Boogie's Gonna Getcha: '80s New York Boogie compilation album. He co-wrote "Be My #2" which appears on the R. Kelly Untitled album. He is also credited with discovering the group Jimmy Briscoe & The Little Beavers.

Lynne Kera Barnett as Lyn Barnett was a New Zealand singer who had success in her home country. Later she moved to Australia and also became popular there. She made many appearances on Australian TV. She had a hit with a cover of "Please Mr. Postman". She was also the sister of singer Christine Barnett. She died some time in early 2017.

Western Union Band was a band from Singapore in the 1970s. They had major hits in Singapore and Malaysia with "Driving Me Crazy", "I've Found My Freedom" and "Sausalito".

Rick Shorter was an American songwriter, music producer, and author. During the 1960s when he was most active, he produced and arranged for a multitude of artists. They include Ciska Peters, Big Dee Irwin, and Galt MacDermot. His compositions have been covered by Ola & the Janglers, The Five Tornados, Johnny And The Hurricanes, The Liverbirds, The Esquires, Gene Pitney and Burl Ives. He also composed, arranged, and produced "If I Call You By Some Name" which was a hit for The Paupers. In the 1970s, Shorter returned to his faith and, along with his wife Gwen became very active in the Seventh-day Adventist church from which he had drifted away over prior years.

The Road was a rock band that was formed in 1967. They had a hit in Greece with a cover of the Zombies song "She's Not There". They released further singles on the Kama Sutra label. They broke up in the 1970s.

Douglas Burnett Gibbs is an American singer, songwriter, record producer and session musician, who had a hit on the Billboard soul chart in 1972 with "I'll Always Have You There". He had also done work with Little Richard, Billy Preston and Chuck Jackson. A song he co-composed with Ralph Johnson has been sampled by Jay-Z for his hit "Song Cry".

Ron Lowry was an American singer who had a hit in the country music charts with "Marry Me" in 1970. He also had a minor hit with "Oh How I Waited".

Garrie Emory Thompson was a record label owner, producer and band manager. He ran the Hush and Duane Record labels. he was the producer of "Little Girl" for Syndicate of Sound.

Lisa Hartt is a Canadian singer and Juno Award nominee. She was the lead singer of The Lisa Hartt Band during the 1970s. They had a hit with "Old Time Movies". As a solo artist, she also had a radio hit with the single "Touch Me".
