The Lidl Unihockey Prime League is the highest league in Swiss floorball. [1]

Contents

Between the season 2007/08 and 2012/13 the league was called Swiss Mobiliar League (SML). It was named after the insurance company Mobiliar.

Since the Season 2022/23 it is called Lidl Unihockey Prime League (L-UPL). [2] Prior to 2007 and between 2013 and 2022 it was called Nationalliga A (NLA).

The men's L-UPL is composed of twelve teams and the women's league of ten teams (eight until season 2016/17). The lower league is called National League B. [3] The champions of both leagues are eligible to compete at the Champions Cup. [4]

Floorball is a type of floor hockey with five players and a goalkeeper in each team. It is played indoors with 96–115.5 cm-long (37.8–45.5 in) sticks and a 70–72 mm-diameter (2.76–2.83 in) plastic ball with holes. Matches are played in three twenty-minute periods. The National League (NL) is a professional ice hockey league in Switzerland and is the top tier of the Swiss league system. Prior to the 2017–18 season, the league was known as National League A. During the 2018–19 season, the league had an average of 6,949 spectators per game which is the highest among European leagues. The capital city's club SC Bern has been ranked first of all European clubs for 18 seasons and had an average attendance of 16,290 after the regular season. The ZSC Lions are another club in the top ten of European ice hockey attendance, ranking seventh with 9,694 spectators.

The Swiss Super League is a Swiss professional league in the top tier of the Swiss football league system and has been played in its current format since the 2003–04 season. As of January 2022, the Swiss Super League is ranked 14th in Europe according to UEFA's ranking of league coefficients, which is based upon Swiss team performances in European competitions. The 2022–23 season will be the 126th season of the Swiss top-flight, making it the longest continuously running top-flight national league.

The Champions Cup is floorball tournament organized by the International Floorball Federation for the best clubs from the top four countries according to IFF World Ranking. As of 2023, those are Finland, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Switzerland, both for men and women. The tournament takes place every year in January both for men's and women's teams, that won in the previous season in their national leagues. Those are Finnish F-liiga, Swedish Svenska Superligan, Czech men's Superliga florbalu and women's Extraliga žen ve florbale and Swiss Unihockey Prime League. That means, there are eight teams in the tournament in total. Since 2024, winners of national cups will also attend. The competing countries alternate in hosting the tournament. The event lasts two days.

Czech Open is an international floorball tournament. It takes place every year in August in Prague, Czech Republic. It is one of the largest floorball tournaments in the world. Every year over 200 teams from around the world participate. The first season was played in 1993. The tournament is organized by Prague floorball club Tatran Střešovice.

The 1962–63 season was Fussball Club Basel 1893's 69th season in their existence. It was their 17th consecutive season in the top flight of Swiss football after their promotion in the 1945–46 season. They played their home games either in their old Landhof Stadium or in their new St. Jakob Stadium. Lucien Schmidlin was voted as new club chairman at the AGM to follow Ernst Weber, who had announced his retirement from the position.

The National League B is the second highest league in Swiss floorball.

The Fussball Club Basel 1893 1984–85 season was their 91st season since their foundation. It was their 39th consecutive season in the top flight of Swiss football since their promotion in the 1945–46 season. FC Basel played their home games in the St. Jakob Stadium. For the second year running the club's chairman was Urs Gribi.

The 2017–18 National League season is the 80th season of Swiss professional ice hockey and the first season as the National League (NL). The change from National League A to National League was made at the end of the 2016–17 season.

Kim Nilsson is a Swedish floorball player. He currently plays for FBC Kalmarsund, a club in the Swedish Super League. He has also played for Grasshopper Club Zürich in NLA and AIK in SSL. He is a part of Sweden's national floorball team, and is the top goal scorer all time for Sweden.
