Lietuvos rytas (lit. 'Morning of Lithuania') is a Lithuanian daily newspaper.

History and profile

"Lietuvos rytas" was established in 1990 on a basis of newspaper "Komjaunimo tiesa". [1] The paper is printed in Vilnius on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. [1] It has a liberal political leaning. [1] "Lietuvos rytas" is part of "Lietuvos rytas" media group.

Additionally to the daily newspaper come the supplements "Rytai-Vakarai", "Sostinė", "Laikinoji Sostinė", magazines "Stilius", "Savaitgalis" (with "TV Antena") and "Stilius Plius". The online version of the paper was started in 2005. [2]

Its circulation was 55.700 copies in 2021. [1]

The Lithuanian Hound is a rare, medium-size hunting dog from Lithuania. It is the only dog breed originating from Lithuania and dates back to the medieval Grand Duchy of Lithuania. However, the breed is not recognized by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI).

Before the independence from the Soviet Union (USSR) in 1990, Lithuanian print media sector served mainly as a propaganda instrument of the Communist Party of Lithuania (LKP). He now works as deputy chief editor of the largest Lithuanian daily Lietuvos rytas and editor-in-chief of its online edition at lrytas.lt.

Lietuvos ryto TV is a Lithuanian entertainment channel founded on 12 October 2008. In 2022, all programs started to be broadcasting in the Lithuanian language, considering the fact that half of the Russian programs that were shown were only with subtitles or the other was dubbed. All Turkish and Ukrainian programs are dubbed. Famous Lithuanian journalist Edmundas Jakilaitis was the first channel manager. In January 2013, he was replaced by Linas Ryškus. 45% of all showing programs are taken from foreign countries, like Russia, Turkey and Ukraine.

The LKF Cup was an annual national domestic cup competition for Lithuanian professional basketball teams. It was organised by the Lithuanian Basketball Federation. The competition's full name was Lietuvos Krepšinio Federacija Taurė. Before 2007, the LKF Cup wasn't held regularly, but after that, its finals were organised every January, February, or March.

Lrytas.lt is one of the largest Lithuanian news portals with audience of 1 million visitors per month on the Internet and more than 300,000 visitors on mobile. "Lrytas.lt" was the media part of "Lietuvos rytas" group. In 2022 "Ekspress Grupp" acquisition deal covers only the "lrytas.lt" online platform and does not include "Lietuvos rytas" printed publications. The portal is separated from the editorial office of the printed newspaper and will continue to operate as a separate media outlet.

The 2016 Karaliaus Mindaugo taurė, also known as KIDY Tour – Karaliaus Mindaugo taurė for sponsorship purposes, was the first edition of the newly formed Lithuanian King Mindaugas Cup. It's managed by the Lithuanian Basketball League and the Lithuanian Basketball Federation. The competition was held in Vilnius, in the Siemens Arena on February 19–21, 2016.

The 2018 LKL Finals was the championship series of the 2017–18 season, of the LKL. The finals series were scheduled from 9 June until 18 June 2018. Due to home court advantage, Žalgiris played Game 1, 3 and 5 at home. Žalgiris defeated Lietuvos rytas 4–1, earning the franchise its 20th LKL championship. Brandon Davies was named the Finals MVP.
