The Singapore Chess Federation is the principal authority over all chess events in Singapore, and was founded in 1949 by Lim Kok Ann. Its promotion of the game has caused participation in its youth and interschool events, among others, to jump from 517 in 1999 to over 1200 in 2004. As a result, Singapore has one of the highest number of chess players in schools per capita in Asia. The Federation is affiliated to the world governing body, International Chess Federation (FIDE), and is part of the ASEAN Chess Confederation and the Asian Chess Federation.

The Chinese Chess Association (CCA) (中国国际象棋协会) is the governing body of chess in China, one of the federations of FIDE, and a member of the Asian Chess Federation (ACF). It is the principal authority over all chess events in China, including the China Chess League (CCL). Founded in 1986, the CCA is headquartered in Beijing.

Anupama Gokhale is an Indian chess player. She won the Indian Women's Championship five times and the Asian Women's Championship twice. In 1985 she was also joint winner, with Malaysian player Audrey Wong, of the Asian Junior Girls' Championship in Adelaide. This achievement automatically earned both players the title of Woman International Master (WIM).
