Lisa Perrotti-Brown is a wine critic, author and Master of Wine based in Napa, California. [1] She reviews the wines of Bordeaux, Napa Valley and Sonoma County for The Wine Advocate and RobertParker.com, the independent wine publication and website founded by wine critic, Robert Parker. She is also the editor-in-chief for The Wine Advocate and RobertParker.com. [2] As one of the world's authorities on wine, Perrotti-Brown has been interviewed on wine related topics by mainstream media such as the BBC [3] and CNBC [4]

Career

Born in Maine, USA, Perrotti-Brown moved to London, UK in the early 1990s to become a playwright, having studied there during her junior year at Colby College. In 1992, she took a job as the manager of a wine bar in Pimlico. This kick-started her more than twenty-year stint in the wine trade, progressing through wine sales and marketing roles in the UK wine trade throughout the 1990s, before moving to Tokyo in 2002, where she worked as a wine buyer for a fine wine importer and a wine educator at Tokyo's Academie du Vin. In 2008, Perrotti-Brown moved to Singapore and began writing a column for Robert Parker's website, then known as eRobertParker.com. [5] Later that year she achieved her Master of Wine (MW) qualification. In 2012, she became the editor-in-chief for Robert Parker Wine Advocate and RobertParker.com. [6]

In 2015, Perrotti-Brown's first book, Taste Like a Wine Critic: A Guide to Understanding Wine Quality, [7] was published. That year, she relocated to Napa, California, to set up the new USA office for Robert Parker Wine Advocate. Today, as well as being the editor-in-chief for RobertParker.com, she is the publication's critic for the wines of Bordeaux, Napa Valley and Sonoma County.

Education

Perrotti-Brown graduated from Colby College, achieving a B.A. in English and Performing Arts in 1989.

In 1998, she received her Diploma qualification from the Wine & Spirit Education Trust, London.

In 2008, Perrotti-Brown was awarded the Master of Wine qualification by the Institute of Masters of Wine in the United Kingdom.

The Paris Wine Tasting of 1976, also known as the Judgment of Paris, was a wine competition organized in Paris on 24 May 1976 by Steven Spurrier, a British wine merchant and his colleague, Patricia Gallagher, in which French oenophiles participated in two blind tasting comparisons: one of top-quality Chardonnays and another of red wines. A Napa County wine rated best in each category, which caused surprise as France was generally regarded as being the foremost producer of the world's best wines. By the early 1970s, the quality of some California wines was outstanding but few took notice as the market favored French brands. Spurrier sold predominately French wine and believed the California wines would not win.

Now in its 14th year, it is the largest pan-Asian wine competition. Having passed the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exams, Meiburg was formerly an accountant at Price Waterhouse Coopers Hong Kong. Meiburg’s career change into wine saw her focus on wine education and journalism, but she has worked in vineyards and wineries in Chile, Bordeaux, South Africa and New York. Born in Sonoma County, she is a long-time and permanent resident of Hong Kong.

Daniel Baron is an American winemaker. He is best known for his work with the Duncan family-owned Silver Oak Cellars and Twomey Cellars, and was Director of Winemaking for both. After his retirement in 2017, he launched Complant Wine with his son, Sam Baron, to produce small production, artisanal, single vineyard wines. Originally a field worker for John Rolleri at Chateau Montelena, he gained experience in the Bordeaux region of France and was mentored by the likes of grape geneticist Professor Harold Olmo, and winemakers Jean-Claude Berrouet and Justin Meyer. He became general manager of Christian Moueix's Dominus Estate in the 1980s. He became winemaker for Silver Oak, an exclusive Cabernet Sauvignon producer, in 1994, and was trained by Justin Meyer to follow in his footsteps as Silver Oak's winemaker before Meyer’s retirement in 2001. In 1999, Baron was instrumental in persuading the Duncans to establish Twomey to pursue Merlot, Pinot noir, and Sauvignon blanc after discovering high quality Merlot grapes on Silver Oak’s Soda Canyon Ranch Vineyard. He has served on boards such as the American Society of Enology and Viticulture and the Napa Valley Wine Technical Group.
