Alabama State's current head coach is Tony Madlock. He was hired in April 2022 [2] to replace Mo Williams, who left to take the same position at Jackson State. [3]

    Maurice Williams is the head men's basketball coach at Jackson State University and a former professional basketball player who played 13 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). After a successful high school career at Murrah High School in Jackson, Mississippi, Williams attended college at the University of Alabama, where he led his team as a freshman to a 27–8 record, and also shared an SEC regular-season championship. After two seasons at Alabama, Williams entered the 2003 NBA draft where he was selected with the 47th overall pick by the Utah Jazz. Throughout his career, he has also played for the Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Clippers, Portland Trail Blazers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Charlotte Hornets and Cleveland Cavaliers. In 2009, Williams was selected as an NBA All-Star. In the 2016, he won his only NBA championship with the Cavaliers. He retired as a player in 2017.

    The Alabama Crimson Tide men's basketball team represents the University of Alabama in NCAA Division I men's basketball. The program plays in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). In the conference it trails only long-time basketball powerhouse Kentucky in SEC tournament titles, is third behind Kentucky and Arkansas in total wins, and is second behind Kentucky in SEC regular-season conference titles. Alabama was retroactively recognized as the pre-NCAA tournament national champion for the 1929–30 season by the Premo-Porretta Power Poll. The team has appeared in the NCAA tournament 23 times, most recently in 2023. Alabama's current head coach is Nate Oats.

    Lewis Jackson is the former men's college basketball head coach at Alabama State University. He took over as head coach in 2005, after Rob Spivery departed to take the head coach's job at Southern University. Jackson resigned from ASU on March 27, 2020 after 15 seasons.

The Hornets, led by 12th-year head coach Lewis Jackson, played their home games at the Dunn–Oliver Acadome in Montgomery, Alabama as members of the Southwestern Athletic Conference. They finished the season 8–23, 6–12 in SWAC play to finish in a tie for eighth place. As the No. 8 seed in the SWAC tournament, they lost to Texas Southern in the quarterfinals.

The Hornets, led by 13th-year head coach Lewis Jackson, played their home games at the Dunn–Oliver Acadome in Montgomery, Alabama as members of the Southwestern Athletic Conference. They finished the season 8–23, 8–10 in SWAC play to finish in seventh place. Due to Grambling State's ineligibility, they received the No. 6 seed in the SWAC tournament where they lost to Texas Southern in the quarterfinals.

The Hornets won the SWAC regular season title, then won the 2009 SWAC tournament to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament as a 16th seed in the Midwest region. Alabama State played in the Opening Round game, losing to Morehead State, 58–43.
