<span class="mw-page-title-main">North Star Conference</span>

The North Star Conference or NSC was a women's conference in the NCAA. The conference existed from the 1983–84 school year through the 1991–92 school year. Originally announced in 1983, the conference was formed by charter members Butler, Dayton, DePaul, Detroit, Evansville, Loyola (Chicago), Notre Dame, and Xavier. Although the conference was to offer competition in cross country, softball, swimming, tennis, and volleyball, the conference was created primarily as a basketball conference. With the exception of Butler and Dayton, all charter members' women's basketball teams were already competing at the NCAA Division I level; Butler and Dayton upgraded their teams from NCAA Division II and commenced competition in the conference's second season. The conference was effectively absorbed by the Mid-Continent Conference, as six of its final seven members moved their women's sports to that organization.

The Seattle Redhawks men's basketball team represents Seattle University in NCAA Division I basketball competition. Established in 1946, the team was previously known as the Seattle Chieftains. The program experienced success during the 1950s and 1960s, reaching the NCAA Division I tournament eleven times. Led by Elgin Baylor, Seattle finished as the runner-up in the 1958 NCAA University Division basketball tournament.

John Francis McGough was an American football player and coach of football, basketball, and baseball. He served as the head football coach at Gonzaga University in 1916, the University of New Mexico in 1919, and the Montana School of Mines—now known as Montana Technological University—compiling a career college football head coaching record of 9–7–2. McGough was also the head basketball coach at Gonzaga during the 1916–17 season and at New Mexico in 1919, amassing a career college basketball record of 6–9. He was also the head baseball coach at New Mexico from 1919 to 1920, tallying a mark of 6–5. He was later an attorney in Montana.

Willis Reuben Brandow was a Canadian professional ice hockey player. He played with the Calgary Tigers, Edmonton Eskimos and Saskatoon Crescents of the Western Canada Hockey League. He also played with the Winnipeg Selkirks in his home province, and later the Duluth Hornets of the American Hockey Association. He later coached Wisconsin Badgers men's ice hockey program from 1926–27. In 1932, he died in a car accident.

George James Guida was an American sprinter who competed in the 1948 Summer Olympics running the 400 meters. He finished sixth in the final behind Arthur Wint's Olympic Record. Injured in the final, he did not run on the American 4x400 meters relay team that ultimately won the gold medal. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. While running for Villanova University he was the 1947 Indoor National Champion at 600 yards.

The 2017 Big Ten softball tournament was held at Wilpon Complex on the campus of University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan, from May 11 through May 13, 2017. As the tournament winner, Minnesota earned the Big Ten Conference's automatic bid to the 2017 NCAA Division I softball tournament. All games of the tournament aired on BTN.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Georgetown–St. John's men's basketball rivalry</span> American college basketball rivalry

The Georgetown–St. John's men's basketball rivalry is a college basketball rivalry between the Georgetown Hoyas men's basketball team of Georgetown University and St. John's Red Storm men's basketball team of St. John's University. The first meeting between the two schools was on December 8, 1909 which was won by St. John's 41-26. The two teams played off and on since that first matchup until 1965, when they began annually scheduled games, and they only intensified when both programs became founding members of the Big East Conference in 1979. The rivalry was brought to national attention during the 1984-85 NCAA Division I men's basketball season when both programs were ranked #1 and #2 throughout the season and met on a total of four occasions, including during the 1985 Big East Championship and the 1985 Final Four.
