The following is a list of Great White North segments from 1980-1982. The characters of Bob and Doug McKenzie first appeared in the first episode of SCTV's third season.

Bob and Doug McKenzie

Bob and Doug McKenzie are a pair of fictional Canadian brothers who hosted "Great White North", a sketch which was introduced on SCTV for the show's third season when it moved to CBC Television in 1980. Bob is played by Rick Moranis and Doug is played by Dave Thomas. Although created originally as filler to both satisfy and mock network Canadian content demands, the duo became a pop culture phenomenon in both Canada and the United States.

Season 3 (1980-1981)

The Great White North segments featured one two-minute sketch per episode. Production took place after hours at SCTV , where several segments would be filmed at once. Of the segments produced, twenty-five were aired during the third season. [1]

Season 4, Cycle 1 (1981)

Most of this cycle was made up of Great White North repeat segments. The only new appearances were in episodes 4/1-2 and 4/1-9. The final episode of the season included a wraparound storyline which heavily featured the characters. [2]

Season 4, Cycle 2 (1981-1982)

Growing in popularity, the characters returned for 9 new segments in the second cycle of season 4. While Cycle 1 featured many repeats, this is the only cycle to feature a new Great White North segment in each episode. [3]

Season 4, Cycle 3 (1982)

This was the last season to feature the characters. The first episode's plot revolves around the growing popularity of Bob and Doug and they are given their own variety show on SCTV, which turns into a catastrophe. The characters are then featured in four final segments before Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas left SCTV to film Strange Brew . [4]

Frederick Allan Moranis, known professionally as Rick Moranis, is a Canadian actor, comedian, musician, songwriter, screenwriter and producer. He came to prominence in the sketch comedy series Second City Television (SCTV) in the 1980s and later appeared in several Hollywood films, including Strange Brew (1983), Ghostbusters (1984), Little Shop of Horrors (1986), Spaceballs (1987), Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, Parenthood (1989), My Blue Heaven (1990), and The Flintstones (1994).

Dave Thomas (actor) Canadian comedian and actor

David William Thomas is a Canadian comedian, actor and television writer. He is best known for portraying Doug McKenzie on SCTV as well as in the film Strange Brew, which he also co-directed.

Most of the album was sketches and film dialogue, while the music sampling was usually accompanied by the characters' commentary. The main title theme was performed by Thomas' brother, Ian Thomas. The album was produced by Marc Giacomelli, Rick Shurman and Ian Thomas. The album was only available for a short amount of time and currently remains out of print. This was the last album released by the duo.
