The following is a list of California Golden Bears men's basketball head coaches. There have been 19 head coaches of the Golden Bears in their 114-season history. [1]

California's current head coach is Mark Madsen. He was hired as the Golden Bears' head coach in March 2023, [2] [3] replacing Mark Fox, who was fired after the 2022–23 season. [4]

  1. California did not field a basketball team for the 1909–10 and 1910–11 seasons.
  2. Campanelli was fired on February 8, 1993. Todd Bozeman was named interim head coach for the remainder of the season. [5]
  3. Bozeman was named permanent head coach in March of 1993, five weeks after being named interim coach. [6]
  4. California forfeited all games from the 1994–95 season, and 25 games from the 1995–96 season. Bozeman's on-court record is 63–35 (.643).

Due to his hustle and physical style of play, he received the nickname "Mad Dog" while playing for the San Ramon Valley High School Wolves, and the moniker continued during his time with the Stanford Cardinal and beyond. He played professionally in the National Basketball Association (NBA) with the Los Angeles Lakers, winning two NBA championships. He also played for the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The California Golden Bears are the athletic teams that represent the University of California, Berkeley. Referred to in athletic competition as California or Cal, the university fields 30 varsity athletic programs and various club teams in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)'s Division I primarily as a member of the Pac-12 Conference, and for a limited number of sports as a member of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF). Over the course of the school's history, California has won team national titles in 13 men's and 3 women's sports and 115 team titles overall. Cal athletes have also competed in the Olympics for a host of different countries. Notable facilities used by the Bears include California Memorial Stadium (football) and Haas Pavilion. Cal finished the 2010–11 athletic season with 1,219.50 points, earning third place in the Director's Cup standings, the Golden Bears' highest finish ever. Cal did not receive any points for its national championships in rugby and men's crew because those sports are not governed by the NCAA. Cal finished 12th in the 2014-15 standings.

Louis P. Campanelli was an American basketball coach. He served as head coach at James Madison University from 1972 to 1985 and the University of California, Berkeley from 1986 to 1993.

James Sebastian Saia is an American men's basketball player and coach. Saia is currently the men's head basketball coach at California State University, Los Angeles.

The program has seen success throughout the years, culminating in a national championship in 1959 under coach Pete Newell, and the team has reached the final four two other times, in 1946 and 1960.

Benjamin Abraham Braun is an American former men's college basketball coach and college basketball analyst. He served as the head men's basketball coach at Siena Heights University (1977–1985), Eastern Michigan University (1986–1996), the University of California, Berkeley (1996–2008), and Rice University (2008–2014), compiling a career coaching record of 615–517. He won the most games (185) of any head coach in the history of the Eastern Michigan Eagles men's basketball program and was named Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year three times. As the head coach of the California Golden Bears, he won the Pac-10 Coach of the Year and had a 219–154 record (.587). Braun currently is a studio and game basketball analyst for the Pac-12 Network.

Daniel "Sonny" Dykes is an American football coach, and a former college baseball player. He is currently the head football coach at Texas Christian University (TCU), and previously served in the same role at Southern Methodist University (SMU) from 2018 to 2021, the University of California, Berkeley from 2013 to 2016, and Louisiana Tech University from 2010 to 2012. In his first season at TCU, he led the Horned Frogs to a win in the semifinal and an appearance in the National Championship game.

Jerod Albert Haase is an American college basketball coach who is the head coach for Stanford Cardinal men's team of the Pac-12 Conference. Haase played college basketball at the University of California, Berkeley from 1992 to 1993, and then transferred to the University of Kansas to play under Roy Williams from 1994 to 1997. Haase was a Naismith and Wooden Award candidate while at Kansas. At Kansas, he only missed two games out of 101 and averaged 12.5 points per game, scoring 1,246 points over the span of his career. He was a member of the Big Eight all defensive team as a junior, and played at the World University Games in 1995. He then spent 13 years as an assistant under Williams at both Kansas and North Carolina before starting his own head coaching career.

The James Madison Dukes men's basketball team is the intercollegiate men's basketball program representing James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. The school, a member of Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, joined the Sun Belt Conference on July 1, 2022, after having been a member of the Colonial Athletic Association since that league's establishment in 1979. The Dukes are led by head coach Mark Byington. The Dukes play their home games at the on-campus Atlantic Union Bank Center which seats 8,500 fans and opened in November 2020.

This was Wyking Jones' second year as head coach at California. The Golden Bears played their home games at Haas Pavilion as members of the Pac-12 Conference. They finished the season 8–23, 3–15 in Pac-12 play to finish in last place. They lost in the first round of the Pac-12 tournament to Colorado.

The 2022–23 California Golden Bears men's basketball team represented the University of California, Berkeley, in the 2022–23 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. This was Mark Fox's fourth year as head coach at California. The Golden Bears played their home games at Haas Pavilion as members of the Pac-12 Conference. The team began the season with a record of 0–12, the worst in history for any Power Five team. They finished the season 3–29, 2–18 in Pac-12 play to finish in last place. They lost to Washington State in the first round of the Pac-12 tournament.

The 2023–24 California Golden Bears men's basketball team represents the University of California, Berkeley, in the 2023–24 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. This will be Mark Madsen's first year as head coach at California. The Golden Bears play their home games at Haas Pavilion as last season members of the Pac-12 Conference after 45 years before they will join the Atlantic Coast Conference in the 2024–25 season.
