Television in Latvia was first tested in 1937 and introduced in 1954. Latvia was the first country in the Baltic States which started broadcasting.

Lolita Ritmanis is a Latvian-American composer, known for her film and television scores, including her work on the animated series Batman Beyond.

The Soviet Story is a 2008 documentary film about Soviet Communism and Soviet–German relations before 1941 and after, written and directed by Edvīns Šnore, and sponsored by the right-wing Union for Europe of the Nations group in the European Parliament. The film features interviews with Western and Russian historians such as Norman Davies and Boris Vadimovich Sokolov, the Russian writer Viktor Suvorov, the Soviet dissident Vladimir Bukovsky, members of the European Parliament, and participants and survivors of the Soviet terror. Sokolov later emphasized that he simply offered expert advice and told Šnore that some of the things he claimed were based on obvious falsifications.

Emil's Mischiefs is a 1985 Latvian TV-film about the Astrid Lindgren character, Emil i Lönneberga. It was produced by Riga Film Studio.

Musiqq is a Latvian pop music duo from Liepāja formed by Marats Ogļezņevs and Emīls Balceris. The duo first gained exposure in June 2009 with the release of their first single “Klimata kontrole”("Climate control"), but on October 1 their second single "Abrakadabra" came out, which was a radio hit in Latvia and "SEB Musical Bank 2009" winner. Their debut album "Šī ir tikai mūzika"("This is just music") was released in March 2010, which included radio hits such as "Abrakadabra", "Dzimšanas diena" ("Birthday") and "Klimata kontrole". Both singers were awarded as "Gada Liepājnieks"("Liepajnieks of the year" is a prize awarded for those, who have invested their time, effort and talent into making the city a better place) in nomination "'Music" and received three Copyright infinity prizes, because their songs are the most played on the radio, television and concerts. Musiqq represented Latvia in 2011 Eurovision Song Contest Düsseldorf with the song "Angel in Disguise".

<i>The Mover</i> 2018 film

The Mover is a 2018 Latvian drama film directed by Dāvis Sīmanis Jr. The film is based on the Latvian novel A Boy and a Dog written by Inese Zandere and illustrated by Reinis Pētersons. It was selected as the Latvian entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards, but was not nominated. In 2019 The Mover was awarded as the best foreign film at Haifa International Film Festival.

Dzidra Ritenberga was a Latvian actress and film director. Ritenberga won the best actress award at the 1957 Venice International Film Festival for her performance as Malva in Malva. From 1976 she directed a few films at Riga Film Studio.
