The M Countdown Chart is a record chart on the South Korean Mnet television music program M Countdown . Every week, the show awards the best-performing single on the chart in the country during its live broadcast.
In 2021, 26 singles ranked number one on the chart and 23 music acts received first-place trophies. "Hwaa" by (G)I-dle, "Hot Sauce" by NCT Dream and "Sticker" by NCT 127 are the only songs to achieve a triple crown. No release earned a perfect score, but "Don't Call Me" by Shinee acquired the highest point total of the year on the March 4 broadcast with a score of 10,990.
Songs are judged based on a combination of Digital Sales (45%; Melon, Genie, FLO), Album Sales (15%), Social Media (15%; YouTube MV views), Global Fan Vote (15%), Mnet Broadcast (10%; Mnet TV, MCD Stage, M2 Contents), Live Vote (10%; for first place nominees only). [1] [2]

"Wannabe" is a song that was recorded by South Korean girl group Itzy and released on their second extended play (EP) titled It'z Me. JYP Entertainment released the song as the EP's lead single on March 9, 2020. It was written and produced by Galactika, who also produced the band's debut track "Dalla Dalla". The song combines house and hip-hop/pop production, and bubblegum-pop melodies.
"Sticker" is a song recorded by South Korean boy group NCT 127 for their third studio album of the same name. Composed by frequent production group and collaborator Dem Jointz, Calixte, Prince Chapelle, Ryan S. Jhun and Yoo Young-jin with lyrical composition by the latter, member Taeyong and Mark, the "experimental" hip-hop track was released digitally on September 17, 2021 as the lead single from the album by SM Entertainment. An accompanying music video was released on the same release date, which depicts a "futuristic/space cowboy" concept.
Romanticize is the second and final full-length studio album by the South Korean boyband NU'EST, released on April 19, 2021. This is NU'EST's first Korean full-length album since 2014's Re:Birth. The album has 10 tracks including the lead single "Inside Out".
"Fighting" is a song recorded by BSS featuring Lee Young-ji. It was released on February 6, 2023, as the lead single of their first single album, Second Wind, which marked the group's first release in five years after their debut single "Just Do It". "Fighting" was written by Woozi, Bumzu, Hoshi, DK, Seungkwan, Lee Young-ji, S.Coups and Park Gi-tae. The song topped the Billboard Japan Hot 100 and debuted at number five on South Korea's Circle Digital Chart. In the United States, it entered the top 10 of the World Digital Song Sales chart. BSS performed the track at the 12th Circle Chart Music Awards and on various South Korean music programs, winning eight music program awards.
"Cake" is a song recorded by South Korean girl group Itzy for their seventh extended play Kill My Doubt. It was released as the EP's lead single by JYP Entertainment and Republic Records on July 31, 2023.
