Tony McCoy Northern Irish jockey

Sir Anthony Peter McCoy, commonly known as AP McCoy or Tony McCoy, is a Northern Irish former National Hunt horse racing jockey. Based in Ireland and the UK, McCoy rode a record 4,358 winners, and was Champion Jockey a record 20 consecutive times, every year that he was a professional. He stands 1.78 m (5'10"), far taller than most jockeys.

Jerry D. Bailey is an NBC Sports thoroughbred racing analyst and a retired American Hall of Fame jockey.

Pat Eddery

Patrick James John Eddery was an Irish flat racing jockey and horse trainer. He rode three winners of The Derby, and was Champion Jockey on eleven occasions. He rode the winners of 4,632 British flat races, a figure exceeded only by Sir Gordon Richards.

Karen OConnor American equestrian

Karen Lende O'Connor is an American equestrian who competes in three-day eventing. Although she did not come from a family of equestrians, her interest in horses started at an early age, and she received her first horse for her 11th birthday. O'Connor began competing internationally in the late 1970s, and in 1986 began riding for the US national eventing team. Since then, she had ridden in five Olympic Games, three World Equestrian Games and two Pan-American Games, winning multiple medals, including a team silver at the 1996 Olympic Games and a team bronze at the 2000 Olympic Games. She has also posted numerous wins and top-10 finishes at other international events. As of 2013, O'Connor is not competing, having suffered fractures to two thoracic vertebrae during a fall at a competition in October 2012.

Barbara B. Hiller is an American author; as Bonnie Bryant she wrote many children's and young adult books; she is best known for writing the intermediate horse book series The Saddle Club, which was published by Bantam Books from October 1988 until November 2001. She also wrote as B. B. Hiller.

<i>Rosie and Jim</i> British childrens television series

Rosie and Jim is a British children's television programme which was produced by Ragdoll Productions and aired on ITV from 3 September 1990 to 16 May 2000. The programme was then repeated periodically on CITV until August 2004. In January 2013, CITV aired the first episode, Locks, as part of the channel's 30th anniversary Old Skool Weekend. A series of short animations were created in 2018 by DHX Media for Wild Brain and aired on their YouTube channel.

Ty Murray American rodeo cowboy

Ty Monroe Murray, is an American nine-time World Champion professional rodeo cowboy. He was one of the top rodeo contestants in the world from the late 1980s to early 2000s. He is an inductee of the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in the all-around category. He is one of the co-founders and a board adviser of the Professional Bull Riders (PBR), and a color commentator on events for the PBR's elite tour, the Unleash the Beast Series (UTB).

The Saddle Club is a series of intermediate children's books published by Bantam Books between 1988 and 2001. The series was created by a publishing house using the contract writing services of self-professed equestrian novice Bonnie Bryant. Many titles were also written by ghostwriters. Spin-offs include four other book series: The Saddle Club Super Editions, The Saddle Club Inside Stories, Pony Tails, and Pine Hollow. The books were adapted into a TV show also called The Saddle Club. In the 1990s, there was also a fan club with a monthly newsletter and a line of model horses manufactured by Breyer.

Peter Clover is an English children's book author and illustrator best known for the Sheltie the Shetland Pony series, featuring a young girl, Emma, and her shaggy Shetland pony. In addition Peter Clover has created four other short series: Rescue Riders, Hercules, Donkey Diaries, and Little Bridge Farm, along with numerous standalone titles. The Tale of Blackeye Jax is a ghost story about a phantom highwayman, published by Barrington Stoke who specialise in books for reluctant readers. Dead Cool and Dead Cooler are humorous ghost stories also published by Barrington. His inspiration for the Sheltie pony books camefrom when he used to live on Exmoor in Devon. Peter said, "I wanted to spend my time doing the two things I enjoyed most – writing and creating pictures. Illustrated adventure stories for kids seemed like a brilliant idea and I just love it. Being able to create an entire village like Little Applewood and bringing all the characters to life gave me such a buzz." He is also known for his contemporary abstract paintings and has exhibited in both London and his current home of Mallorca. The Attack of the Killer Frogs is his latest children's horror story, published by A & C Black. With over 70 titles in print throughout UK, USA, France and Germany his latest books are the re-telling of classic tales with ten beautifully illustrated titles including Treasure Island, Robin Hood, Gulliver's Travels, Wind in the Willows, Wizard of Oz, Swan Lake, Rumpelstiltskin and others.

Horses in the Middle Ages

Horses in the Middle Ages differed in size, build and breed from the modern horse, and were, on average, smaller. They were also more central to society than their modern counterparts, being essential for war, agriculture, and transport.

Patricia Leitch born 13 July 1933, Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland, died 28 July 2015, was a Scottish writer, best known for her series of children's books in the pony story genre about Jinny Manders and her wild, traumatised Arabian horse Shantih, set in the Scottish Highlands. The 12 books in the Jinny series were published between 1976 and 1988 by Armada. They are currently in reprint by Catnip Publishers. Two more of her novels, Dream of Fair Horses (1975) and The Horse from Black Loch (1963) have been republished by Jane Badger Books. She has also written under the pseudonym Jane Eliot.

Henrik Anders (Henka) Gustafsson is an international Motorcycle speedway rider who won the 1993 World Pairs Championship with Tony Rickardsson and the Speedway World Team Cup with Sweden in 1994 and 2000. Early in his career Gustafsson was known as much for his long, curly blonde hair as he was his riding, though his riding soon outshone his locks.

Pony Pals is a 44-book series of pony books written by Jeanne Betancourt and published by Scholastic. It chronicles the adventures of three young girls and their ponies.

The Fletcher Street Riding Club is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization devoted to inner-city horsemanship in north Philadelphia.

Christine Pullein-Thompson British horsewoman and writer

Christine Pullein-Thompson, later Christine Popescu and a nom de plume of Christine Keir was a British horsewoman and writer known for her pony books. Her mother, her two sisters and her daughter also wrote pony books; together they created over 200 books for children - and Christine wrote over 100 of them.
