Sakura Wars, known in Japan as Sakura Taisen, is a Japanese steampunk media franchise created by Oji Hiroi and owned by Sega. It is focused around a series of cross-genre video games. The first game in the series was released in 1996, with five sequels and numerous spin-off titles being released since then. The series—set during a fictionalized version of the Taishō period—depicts groups of women with magical abilities using steam-powered mecha to combat demonic threats.
Momoko Tsugunaga is a former Japanese singer, actress, and radio personality. Tsugunaga joined Hello! Project as a member of Hello! Project Kids at the age of 10 and later became part of the girl groups Berryz Kobo and Buono! Following Berryz Kobo's hiatus, she became the playing manager of Country Girls.
Mai Hagiwara is a Japanese apparel designer and former singer and actress. At age 6, she auditioned for Hello! Project Kids in 2002 and later became part of Cute, a Japanese idol girl group associated with Hello! Project.
Kamaitachi no Yoru, released in English as Banshee's Last Cry, is a visual novel created by Chunsoft. It was first released for Super Famicom and was later ported to other consoles. An English localized version of the game was translated by Jeremy Blaustein and was released for Android and iOS by Aksys Games in 2014. The game is the second sound novel by Chunsoft and brought a myriad of other companies to develop similar games. The term "sound novel" was a registered trademark, but is regarded as a genre. The game was a financial success. It sold 750,000 units for Super Famicom and over 400,000 units for PlayStation. The game sold 1.25 million units with remakes and ports in April 2002.
The Special Forces Group is the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force's special forces unit established on March 27, 2004 by the then Defense Agency to counter terrorist activities and deter guerrilla-style attacks on Japanese soil and to conduct military operations against guerrillas or enemy commandos. Sakura Wars the Animation is a Japanese anime television series directed by Manabu Ono, written by Ono and Tatsuhiko Urahata, and animated by Sanzigen. Co-produced by Sega, Sammy and Tencent Japan, under the name SAKURA PROJECT, it is based on the setting and story of the 2019 video game Sakura Wars. Set in 1941, the series follows the adventures of Seijuro Kamiyama and the Imperial Combat Revue. The series ran on Tokyo MX and BS11 from April 3 to June 19, 2020 and is streamed in North America by Funimation. It is scheduled to be released in four Blu-ray and DVD compilations by Pony Canyon, with the first two being released on June 17, 2020. In Southeast Asia and South Asia, the series is licensed by Medialink and released on Ani-One YouTube channel.
