Production

As of April 2016, Tanzania cement manufacturers were producing an estimated 2.8 million tonnes, with Tanzania Portland Cement Limited being the production leader, accounting for 36 percent of the total, followed by Tanga Cement Plc and Dangote Industries Tanzania. [7] In addition to local production, Tanzania was projected to import as estimated 700,000 metric tonnes in 2016. [7]

By December 2016, five new manufacturers had set up factories in the country, raising annual installed capacity to 10.8 metric tonnes, with total production in 2016, amounting to 7.1 million tonnes. Annual consumption in 2016 was 4.1 million tonnes, with the balance sold to regional neighbors, including Burundi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. [8]

Uganda is the largest producer of granular brown sugar in the East African Community, accounting for about 500,000 metric tonnes annually as of May 2017. By 2021, national annual sugar output had increased to about 600,000 metric tonnes of brown sugar and 60,000 metric tonnes of industrial sugar. In October 2022, it was projected that the country would produce 822,000 metric tonnes in calendar year 2022. Of that, about 720,000 metric tonnes would be brown table sugar and about 102,000 metric tonnes would be white industrial sugar.

Kagera Sugar Limited (KSL), is a sugar manufacturer in Tanzania. As of 2019 Kagera Sugar was the third largest producer of sugar in the country, accounting for 17 percent market share.

The Amsons Group of Companies, commonly referred to as the Amsons Group, is a privately owned conglomerate in Tanzania. Established in 2000, the conglomerate is involved in the manufacture and distribution of cement and concrete, construction, transport, flour, logistics, among other activities.
