It was founded in 1967 and the first year was held in 1968. The festival was held in 1970 but the Golden Kingfisher wasn't awarded. The festival wasn't held again until 1990, when 12 films were awarded the Kingfisher to represent Czech and Slovak cinematography from the 1969-1990 period.

Falcon is one of main film distributors in the Czech Republic along with Cinemart, Vertical Entertainment a.s. and Bontonfilm. Its main rival is Cinemart.

Cinemart is a Czech film company founded in 1992 as Lucernafilm. It changed to its current name in 1995. Cinemart was a minor film distributor with only 1% share on the market. It changed when Cinemart took over US partners of Bontonfilm becoming one of largest film distribution companies in the Czech Republic.

Such Is Life is a 1930 Czech drama film directed by Carl Junghans and starring Vera Baranovskaya, Theodor Pištěk and Máňa Ženíšková. The German director Carl Junghans was unable to secure funding in his native country, but eventually found an investor in Theodor Pištěk and the movie was made in Czechoslovakia.
