Education in Thailand is provided mainly by the Thai government through the Ministry of Education from pre-school to senior high school. A free basic education to fifteen years is guaranteed by the Thai constitution. This basic education comprises six years of elementary school and three years of lower secondary school. In addition, three years of pre-school and three years of upper-secondary education is available free of charge, but are non-compulsory.
Mahidol University is an autonomous public research university in Thailand. The university was founded as part of Siriraj Hospital in 1888. It was first called the University of Medical Science in 1943, and has been recognized as Thailand's fourth public university. The university was renamed in 1969 by King Bhumibol Adulyadej for his father, Prince Mahidol of Songkhla, known as the "Father of Modern Medicine and Public Health in Thailand".
Mahitala Dhibesra Adulyadej Vikrom, the Prince Father, formerly Prince Mahidol Adulyadej, Prince of Songkhla or Mahidol Songkla, was the father of King Ananda Mahidol and King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand, and the paternal grandfather of King Vajiralongkorn. He was also regarded as the father of modern medicine and public health in Thailand. He also founded the House of Mahidol or the present Royal Family of Thailand. His two sons reigned for more than eight decades, longer than the Ibn Saud siblings of Saudi Arabia, and the Nahyan siblings of Abu Dhabi.
Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University is the oldest and largest medical school and the oldest of any kind of university faculty in Thailand. The faculty is now part of Mahidol University. Founded in 1889, the faculty was run in co-operation with Siriraj Hospital, the first public hospital in Thailand, which provides students with clinical experience. The faculty's campus and hospital is in the Bangkok Noi District, Bangkok, on the former Rear Palace. The medical school accepts about 250 students for undergraduate education and more than 100 to postgraduate studies each year.
Mahidol Wittayanusorn School, also known colloquially as MWIT, is a secondary school in Thailand. Situated on the Salaya Campus of Mahidol University in Nakhon Pathom Province, it enrolls Mathayom 4–6 students and is the first specialised science school in the country, designed to provide education for the development of gifted and talented students in science and mathematics. The school is unique among Thai schools in that it functions as an autonomous public organisation, and receives direct funding from the government of up to 100,000 baht per student, which means that all students are awarded a full scholarship for three years, including accommodation.
International University is a private higher education institution specializing in medicine and medical science. Established in 2002, IU is recognized and nationally accredited by the government of Cambodia, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and the Accreditation Committee of Cambodia (ACC). International University education standards are recognized by transnational medical institutions such as the Asia–Europe Foundation, Association of Southeast Asian Institutions of Higher Learning (ASAIHL), UN World Health Organization - including accreditation with the United States-based Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER) and International Medical Education Directory (IMED) enabling medical school graduates to take the three complete steps of the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) and on successful completion can register for physician residency and practice medicine in the United States. The medium of instruction used at IU are English and Khmer.
Ekamai International School (EIS) is a private, non-profit, co-educational, international school founded by the Seventh-day Adventist Church. It is located in Watthana District, Bangkok, Thailand and educates students from pre-kindergarten to the twelfth grade. In 1993, the school acquired an international school license. The school is part of the worldwide Seventh-day Adventist education system.
The College of Music, Mahidol University or Wittayalaiduliyangkasilp is a music school in Phutthamonthon, Nakhon Pathom. The College of Music is a faculty within Mahidol University. It was established in 1994 by Mahidol University under the leadership of Sugree Charoensook, the first music school in Thailand.
The Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, the second oldest medical school in Thailand, was established in 1947 in accordance with the wishes of King Ananda Mahidol to educate a sufficient number of medical doctors to satisfy the public's demands. For more than half a century, this medical school has provided society with more than 5,000 medical doctors. The school accepts about 300 medical students and more than 100 for postgraduate residency training each year. It has consistently been ranked as one of the best medical schools in Thailand and, as of 2024, is the most competitive in terms of admissions scores.
The Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University has long been regarded as Thailand's most prestigious medical school.
Thai-Chinese International School is a private, non-profit day school in Bang Phli District, Samut Prakan Province, in the Bangkok Metropolitan Region of Thailand.
The Ministry of Education is a Thai governmental body responsible for the oversight of education in Thailand. It was established by King Rama V (Chulalongkorn) in 1892 as the Ministry of Public Instruction which controlled religion, education, healthcare, and museums. In 1941, the ministry changed its Thai name to the present one.
The Faculty of Medicine Vajira Hospital is a medical school located in Bangkok, Thailand. The faculty has its origin as a medical college, previously known as BMA Medical College & Vajira Hospital. The school is run in collaboration with Vajira Hospital, Mahidol University and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Medical Department. The faculty has become a part of the newly established Navamindradhiraj University. The Faculty of Medicine Vajira Hospital was an affiliated college of Mahidol University between 1985 and 2011.
Mahidol University International College is Thailand's first public international college. It is part of Mahidol University and is located on the university's Salaya Campus in Nakhon Pathom Province.
Mahidol University International Demonstration School (MUIDS); Thai: โรงเรียนสาธิตนานาชาติ มหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล, RTGS: Rong Rian Sathit Nana Chat Mahawittayalai Mahidol) is a co-educational, international high school owned and operated by Mahidol University. The school is located on the Mahidol Salaya campus twenty-five kilometers west of Bangkok, Thailand.
The state agencies that form Thailand's public sector consist of several types of functioning bodies. While some agencies established by mandate of the constitution are independent, others are directly or indirectly answerable to the executive of the Royal Thai Government. The majority of these are government agencies, which employ the civil service as well as the military. Others include public organizations and state enterprises.
Anuban Ratchaburi School was established on June 24, 1925 as a mixed school for pupils aged 4 to 13. It is located in Ratchaburi Thailand. School is government's school under the supervision of the Office of Private Education Commission (OPEC) and the Ministry of Education (MOE). The school admits boys and girls over the age of 4–13. In accordance with English Program regulations, and Native Thai Program.
The Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University is the only faculty specialising in tropical medicine in Thailand. It operates the Mahidol Bangkok School of Tropical Medicine (Mahidol-BSTM) as the main teaching facility and the Hospital for Tropical Diseases for patient treatment.
