There are many medical colleges in Iraq, The first medical school in Iraq was established in 1927. [1] [2] Most adopt the traditional subject-based curriculum. There are two colleges that adopted the problem-based curriculum, University of Kerbala College of Medicine and University of Tikrit College of Medicine. Increasingly, since 2012, colleges are either being established adopting the integrated curriculum or changing from subject-based curriculum. [3]

The Iraqi Virtual Science Library is an Iraqi Virtual Library providing Iraqi academics with access to recourses via the internet. The library, launched in May 2006, initially provided access to more than one million articles from 17,000 electronic journals and other resources. Access to this knowledge is considered vital for the rebuilding of Iraq as it will improve the curriculum which suffered under Saddam Hussein's regime. The library is part of the overall plan to improve access to information in Iraq.

The departure of US troops from Iraq in 2011 ended the period of occupation that had begun with the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003. The time since U.S. withdrawal has been marked by a renewed Iraqi insurgency and by a spillover of the Syrian civil war into Iraq. By 2013, the insurgency escalated into a renewed war, the central government of Iraq being opposed by ISIL and various factions, primarily radical Sunni forces during the early phase of the conflict. The war ended in 2017 with an Iraqi government and allied victory, however ISIL continues a low-intensity insurgency in remote parts of the country.

Orphan Charity Foundation is a humanistic independent Foundation cares for orphans' affairs, in general, and orphans of terrorism, in particular. It was founded in the 4th of March 2007 on the recommendation of Ayatollah Sayyed Muhammad Sai'd Al-Hakim and under the direct supervision and support of his office. The competition began on 10 September 2021 with the first-round matches involving teams from the third and fourth tiers, and the final was played on 16 July 2022 at Al-Madina Stadium in Baghdad.

Harakat Ahrar al-Iraq was formed under the name of Quwat Ahrar al-Iraq on 14 June 2014 according to the fatwa of the Grand Mufti Sheikh Mahdi Al-Sumaidaie, the grand mufti of the Republic of Iraq on the necessity of enlisting and defending Iraq.

The 2023 Iraqi Republic Championship was a newly-returned friendly tournament organised by the Iraq Football Association. All 18 governorates of Iraq were represented in this tournament. The tournament started in August 2023, during the off-season of the Iraqi Premier League. This was the tournament's first edition in over 30 years. Salahaddin XI beat Baghdad Karkh XI in the final on 27 September to win the tournament.
