Medical schools are developed, monitored and credentialed by national organizations in each country. The agency responsible for this recognition in most countries is the Ministry of Health. Medical schools that are recognized by the appropriate agencies in their respective countries are listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools, which contains the combined data from the previous sources – the International Medical Education Directory (IMED) and the AVICENNA Directory. International University is a private higher education institution specializing in medicine and medical science. Established in 2002, IU is recognized and nationally accredited by the Royal Government of Cambodia, the Royal Cambodian Ministry of Education, Youth & Sports and the Accreditation Committee of Cambodia (ACC). International University education standards are recognized by transnational medical institutions such as the Asia-Europe Foundation, ASAIHL, UN World Health Organization - including accreditation with the U.S.-based ECFMG, FAIMER and IMED enabling medical school graduates to take the three complete steps of the USMLE and on successful completion can register for physician residency and practice medicine in the United States. The University of Health Sciences Antigua (UHSA) is a private, for-profit medical and nursing school located in Dow's Hill near Falmouth, Antigua, in the Caribbean. UHSA confers upon its graduates the Doctor of Medicine (MD) and Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.

University of Medicine and Health Sciences

The University of Medicine and Health Sciences is a private, for-profit medical school located in Basseterre, Saint Kitts in the Caribbean. UMHS confers upon its graduates the Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree. The university also has a 5th semester campus in Portland, Maine and an administrative office in New York, New York.

Medical University of the Americas – Belize (MUA-B) was a medical school located in San Pedro Town, Belize from 2001 to 2007. As of January 25, 2010, MUA-B is no longer a recognized institution in Belize.

Saint James School of Medicine (SJSM)is a private for-profit offshore medical school with two basic science campuses, one in British Overseas Territory of Anguilla, and the other in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, it is considered one school with two campuses. The Avicenna Directory project was a public database of worldwide medical schools, schools of pharmacy, schools of public health and educational institutions of other academic health professions. The Avicenna Directory was maintained by the University of Copenhagen in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) in the years 2008-2015.

Sahiwal Medical College Medical college in Punjab, Pakistan

Sahiwal Medical College, Sahiwal, SLMC, established in 2010, is a public school of medicine located in Sahiwal, Punjab, Pakistan. It was established to provide education in the Punjab region and especially in Sahiwal District. The American International School of Medicine (AISM) is a private medical school with its main campus in Georgetown, Guyana and clinical campuses in Atlanta Georgia, clinical placements in United Kingdom, and training sites in Nigeria. Bannu Medical College Medical school in Bannu, Pakistan

Bannu Medical College is a public medical institute located in Bannu, Pakistan. It is one of several medical colleges affiliated to Khyber Medical University. The college was established by the former Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Akram Khan Durrani. Bannu Medical College enrolls 100 MBBS students each year.

The World Directory of Medical Schools is a public database of institutions that provide medical education. There are over 3,500 medical schools listed in the directory. The directory is published as a collaboration of the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) and the Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER).

World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) is a non-governmental organisation concerned with education and training of medical doctors worldwide. WFME’s main objective is to "enhance the quality of medical education worldwide, with promotion of the highest scientific and ethical standards in medical education". The organisation develops standards for medical education and promotes accreditation of medical schools. It also co-manages the World Directory of Medical Schools.
