  3. 1 2 Benjamin F. Hilbun was president when the Mississippi Legislature again changed the name from Mississippi State College to Mississippi State University in 1958 after the Mississippi State gained university status. [1]
  4. On Friday, March 7, 2008 Robert "Doc" Foglesong officially resigned from his position as President of Mississippi State. He resigned for the "express purpose of helping the university move forward." [2]
  5. On Thursday, March 20, 2008, Dr. L. Stacy Davidson, Jr., President of the Mississippi Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL), announced that the Board unanimously named Dr. Vance H. Watson as the Interim President at Mississippi State University." [3]

On October 20, 2008 "During its emergency teleconference, the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning accepted the resignation of Mississippi State University Interim President Dr. Vance Watson, effective immediately...The Board also announced that long-time MSU Vice President Dr. Roy H. Dr. Aubrey K. Lucas is an American academician, and the former President and current President Emeritus of the University of Southern Mississippi. Lucas received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi and attained his Ph.D from Florida State University. In 1975, Lucas became the 6th President of the University of Southern Mississippi. He also served as chair of the American Association of Colleges and Universities and on the board of the American Council on Education.

The Northern Gulf Institute (NGI) is a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Cooperative Institute started in October 2006. It is one of 20 NOAA Cooperative Institutes (CIs). The NGI is a partnership of six academic institutions and NOAA. The collaboration led by Mississippi State University (MSU), includes the University of Southern Mississippi (USM), Louisiana State University (LSU), Florida State University (FSU), the University of Alabama in Huntsville, and the Dauphin Island Sea Lab (DISL). The NGI defines the Northern Gulf of Mexico region as the upland, watershed, coastal zone, and coastal ocean areas from the Sabine River in Louisiana east to the Suwannee River in Florida.

John Luther Crain is an American accountant and academic administrator and formerly served as president of Southeastern Louisiana University, having been appointed to the position on February 17, 2009, by the Board of Supervisors of the University of Louisiana System. He succeeded Randy Moffett. Crain so far has served the longest presidency at Southeastern Louisiana University and in the UL system.

J. Charles Lee was the President of Mississippi State University from 2002 to 2006. Lee served one year as interim university president before being named to the position on a permanent basis on January 17, 2003.

The Men's Irish Hockey League is a field hockey league organised by Hockey Ireland that features men's teams from both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. The league was first played for during the 2008–09 season. It replaced the All-Ireland Club Championships as the top level men's field hockey competition in Ireland. Since 2015–16 the league has been sponsored by Ernst & Young and, as a result, it is also known as the EY Hockey League.

Lorrie Ann Clemo is an American political scientist who is the 15th president of D'Youville University, serving since January 2017. She also sits on the Board of Directors at Kaleida Health the Buffalo Niagara Partnership, the Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities in New York (CICU), and the Western New York Higher Education Consortium. Previously she served as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at the State University of New York at Oswego since 2012.

Radenka Maric is an American engineer and academic who became the 17th president of the University of Connecticut on September 28, 2022. She was the first internal candidate to be named president since Harry J. Hartley in 1990 and is the institution’s second female president. She had served as interim president of the University of Connecticut since February 1, 2022 and previously served as UConn's vice president for research and innovation.
