Public primary and secondary education in Coral Springs, Florida is handled by the Broward County Public Schools district (BCPS). [1] BCPS operates three high schools, four middle schools and 12 elementary schools within Coral Springs. Three charter schools and seven private schools also operate within the city.

A portion of the city limits is zoned to Westglades Middle School in Parkland. [2] [5]

A portion of the city limits is in the geographic priority area for Heron Heights Elementary in Parkland, while the other choice is Park Trails Elementary in Parkland, and with Riverglades, also in Parkland being the backup choice. [2] [6]

Atlantic Boulevard, consisting mostly of State Road 814, is a major commercial and commuter highway in northern Broward County, Florida. The 13-mile-long (21 km) divided highway extends from the Sawgrass Expressway in Coral Springs to State Road A1A in Pompano Beach. It serves as the latitudinal baseline for the street grid for the city of Pompano Beach. The portion of the boulevard west of U.S. Route 441 is locally maintained as County Road 814.

Stoneman Douglas High School shooting School shooting in Parkland, Florida

On February 14, 2018, 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz opened fire on students and staff at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, murdering 17 people and injuring 17 others. Cruz, a former student at the school, fled the scene on foot by blending in with other students, and was arrested without incident about an hour later in nearby Coral Springs. He was convicted on 17 counts of premeditated first-degree murder and 17 counts of attempted first-degree murder. Police and prosecutors investigated "a pattern of disciplinary issues and unnerving behavior."

Ryan Petty

Ryan Blaine Petty is an American school safety activist. His 14-year-old daughter Alaina Petty was killed in the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting on February 14, 2018. Petty is credited with helping to pass the "Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act" Florida Senate Bill 7026 just three weeks after his daughter Alaina was murdered. At the federal level, Petty worked with Senators Orrin Hatch, Marco Rubio and Bill Nelson to pass the STOP School Violence Act and the Fix NICS Act of 2017. He has met frequently with Florida governor Rick Scott, and many federal lawmakers.
