Area code 705 was created in a 1956 area code split from portions of the 613 and 519 numbering plan areas. After a reduction in geographic coverage in 1962, the numbering plan area was assigned a second area code, 249, in 2011 to form an overlay numbering plan. A third area code, 683, was added in June 2022.

The Radziwiłł Chronicle, also known as the Königsberg Chronicle, is a collection of illuminated manuscripts from the 15th-century; it is believed to be a copy of a 13th-century original. Its name is derived from the Radziwiłł family of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, who kept it in their Nesvizh Castle in the 17th and 18th centuries. The Radziwiłł manuscript was taken out of Königsberg in 1761 and acquired by the Library of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Saint Petersburg, where it is currently preserved with registration number "34.5.30".
Japan has a nationwide system of national highways distinct from the expressways. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and other government agencies administer the national highways. Beginning in 1952, Japan classified these as Class 1 or Class 2. Class 1 highways had one- or two-digit numbers, while Class 2 highways had three-digit numbers. For example, routes 1 and 57 were Class 1 highways while 507 was a Class 2 highway.

The first edition was published in 1953 with 142 objects (Sh1), and the second and final version was published by US astronomer Stewart Sharpless in 1959 with 312 objects. Sharpless also includes some planetary nebulae and supernova remnants, in addition to H II regions.
