Latin freestyle or simply freestyle music is a form of electronic dance music that emerged in the New York metropolitan area in the 1980s. It experienced its greatest popularity from the late 1980s until the early 1990s. A common theme of freestyle lyricism originated as heartbreak in an urban environment typified by New York City. The first freestyle hit is often said to have been "Let the Music Play" by Shannon, released in 1983. Freestyle music is a Latin American-based rhythm with a heavy syncopated drum sound. This style of electro funk was defined as "freestyle" because of the way it was produced and mixed. Chris Barbosa is widely credited as the genre's founder.
Triple J is a government-funded, national Australian radio station intended to appeal to listeners of alternative music, which began broadcasting in January 1975. The station also places a greater emphasis on broadcasting Australian content compared to commercial stations. Triple J is a division of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
Miami bass is a subgenre of hip hop music that became popular in the 1980s and 1990s. The use of the Roland TR-808, sustained kick drum, heavy bass, raised dance tempos, and frequently sexually explicit lyrical content differentiate it from other hip hop subgenres. Music author Richie Unterberger has characterized Miami bass as using rhythms with a "stop-start flavor" and "hissy" cymbals with lyrics that "reflected the language of the streets, particularly Miami's historically black neighborhoods such as Liberty City, Goulds and Overtown".

Australian hip hop traces its origins to the early 1980s and is largely inspired by hip hop and other urban musical genres from the United States. As the form matured, Australian hip hop has become a commercially viable style of music that is no longer restricted to the creative underground, with artists such as The Kid Laroi, 1200 Techniques, Manu Crooks, Briggs, Baker Boy, Koolism, Hilltop Hoods and Bliss n Eso having achieved notable fame. Australian hip-hop is still primarily released through independent record labels, which are often owned and operated by the artists themselves. Despite its genesis as an offshoot of American hip hop, Australian hip hop has developed a distinct personality that reflects its evolution as an Australian musical style.
James Roberts, better known as Ed Lover, is an American rapper, actor, musician, radio personality, and former MTV VJ. He hosted "The Ed Lover Show" on SiriusXM's old-school hip hop station, BackSpin. As of April 12, 2018, he hosts the morning show at classic hip-hop "104.3 Jams" WBMX in Chicago.
Yo! MTV Raps is a two-hour television music video program, which first aired on MTV Europe from 1987 to mid-90s and on MTV US from August 1988 to August 1995. The program was the first hip hop music show on the network, based on the original MTV Europe show, aired one year earlier. Yo! MTV Raps produced a mix of rap videos, interviews with rap stars, live in studio performances and comedy. The show also yielded a Brazilian version called Yo! MTV and broadcast by MTV Brasil from 1990 to 2005.
KPWR is a commercial radio station in Los Angeles, California, broadcasting to the Greater Los Angeles area. KPWR is owned and operated by Meruelo Group and airs a rhythmic contemporary format. KPWR's studios are based in the Los Angeles suburb of Burbank, and the transmitter is on Mount Wilson, shared with KCAL-TV and KRTH. Meruelo acquired KPWR from Emmis Communications for $82.75 million in May 2017, officially bringing the station under common ownership with KDAY, KDEY-FM, and KWHY-TV on August 1, 2017.

Storm the Studio was a radio program that aired on Australia's 3RRR FM radio station during the late 1980s and early 1990s. DJ "Steve Wide" presented the program, which focused on a combination of dance music tracks including house music, hip hop, industrial music and acid house. The program was notable for cultivating a large following within Melbournes dance community and alongside Triple M's Live from the Ivy program, was one of Australia's first radio programs not to focus on rock or pop music.
Chance Dylan Waters, was an independent Australian hip hop artist and record producer. As Phatchance, Waters was a founder of the group, Natural Causes, in 2003 which issued an album, The Incidental Noise Demo, and toured nationally. The group disbanded later that year.
Langomi-e-Hau Latukefu, better known as Hau Latukefu, or sometimes MC Hau or simply Hau, is an Australian hip hop musician and radio host. He is best known as half of the duo Koolism and as the host of Triple J's hip hop program.
