Liz Durden-Myers is a British academic and a senior lecturer in physical education at the University of Gloucestershire and Bath Spa University. [1]

Career

In 2010, while she was still an undergraduate, Durden-Myers founded PE Scholar, a website for sharing physical education resources for PE teachers. [2]

Durden-Myers has a PhD in physical literacy. [3]

In 2021, Durden-Myers contributed to the House of Lords report A National Plan for Sport, Health and Wellbeing. [4] [5] She has been as a keynote speaker in conferences in the area of Physical Education and Physical literacy across the UK and beyond. [6] [7]

In 2022 in a UK political journal, she again called for the government to establish a national plan for sport and recreation. [8] She often comments in the media on topics related to the benefits of physical activity in youngsters. [9]

Books

Durden-Myers is the author of Physical Literacy: A Guide for Educators [10] [11] and a contributor to other books: Is PE in Crisis? Leading Meaningful Change in Physical Education, Learning to Teach Physical Education in the Secondary School, [12] Physical Literacy Across the World, [13] and Researching Difference in Sport and Physical Activity. [14]

Durden-Myers is a contributor to Perspectives on Flourishing Schools (Rowman and LittleField). [15]

Personal life

Durden-Myers lives in Bath with her two sons and her husband.

Physical education, often abbreviated to Phys. Ed. or PE, and sometimes informally referred to as gym class or simply just gym, is a subject taught in schools around the world. PE is taught during primary and secondary education and encourages psychomotor, cognitive, and effective learning through physical activity and movement exploration to promote health and physical fitness. When taught correctly and in a positive manner, children and teens can receive a storm of health benefits. These include reduced metabolic disease risk, improved cardiorespiratory fitness, and better mental health. In addition, PE classes can produce positive effects on students' behavior and academic performance. Research has shown that there is a positive correlation between brain development and exercising. Researchers in 2007 found a profound gain in English Arts standardized test scores among students who had 56 hours of physical education in a year, compared to those who had 28 hours of physical education a year.
